Second PGA playoff round for DeLaet

Comments

Graham DeLaet will head into the second round of the PGA Tour playoffs, the Deutsche Bank Championship, this week.

The Deutsche Bank Championship is New England’s premier PGA Tour playoff event, held over Labour Day weekend at TPC Boston in Norton, Mass.

DeLaet was cut from the first round of the playoffs, after scoring three-over-par in two rounds of tournament play at The Barclays. The cut after two rounds was set at one-over-par, and he was two shots short of the cut.

He dropped his FedExCup standing to 37th, but still qualified for the second round. DeLaet dropped nine ranks in the FedExCup after being cut, as he was 28th before the first round.

The Duetsche Bank Championship, which is the top 100, starts on Thursday, Aug. 29. It is followed by the BMW Championship, which is the top 70 and starts on Thursday, Sept. 4.

During The Barclays, DeLaet had a difficult first round, which saw him at the bottom of the leaderboard. He started by hitting a bogey on the first hole, then hit a double bogey on hole 6, and then a birdie on hole seven.

On the back nine, he hit a birdie on hole 10, but then followed that with a triple bogey on hole 11, and back-to-back bogeys on holes 12 and 13. He had a bogey on hole 15, a birdie on hole 17 and a bogey on hole 18. His first round score was 78, seven-over-par.

DeLaet had a better second round,  avoiding any bogeys during the day. He started on the back nine, where he hit a birdie on hole 15 and another birdie on hole 17. Then on the front nine, he had back-to-back birdies on holes four and five. His second round score was 67, four-under-par.

As DeLaet continues in the PGA Tour playoffs, his current Official World Golf ranking is 40th. He is still the top-ranked Canadian golfer in this rankings.

DeLaet still is in good position to qualify for the BMW Championship, but will have to work hard to regain a good position for the final playoff round, the Tour Championship, which will feature the Top 30 FedExCup players. He is one of the Top 30 Fantasy Picks for the Tour Championship, according to the PGA Tour website.
