SASKATOON - Operations have returned to normal at Cameco's Rabbit Lake operation in northern Saskatchewan after workers were forced to leave because of a forest fire.

Cameco says the fire burned its way to within one kilometre of the site.

About 300 people left Friday, while 50 essential personnel stayed behind to monitor the fire and the sprinkler systems.

After a survey of the area, Cameco (TSX:CCO) and Saskatchewan wildfire management determined that it was safe to resume normal activities on the weekend.

The Saskatoon-based uranium miner and wildfire officials are keeping an eye on the fire.

The Rabbit Lake mill is currently shut down for scheduled maintenance and improvements.
