STEPHENVILLE, N.L. - A search spokesman says a helicopter has located what's believed to be the body of a man who fell from a U.S.-based yacht in the Gulf of St. Lawrence off western Newfoundland.
Lt. Alan Garner of the Royal Canadian Navy, says a military Cormorant helicopter found a body around 10:45 a.m. today local time in the area of the search about 16 kilometres off Stephenville.
Garner says there are no other details at this point as officials work to make a positive identification of the victim.
The search began Saturday after a man apparently tumbled into rough seas of about three metres during a thunderstorm.
A search was mounted involving a Cormorant from CFB Gander, N.L., a Hercules aircraft from CFB Greenwood, N.S., and a coast guard vessel.
