Officials gather at the Falkirk Wheel in Scotland to hold a ceremonial tribute to native son Thomas Clement Douglas, recently named as The Greatest Canadian in a CBC contest. From left are master of ceremonies Kenneth Shirra, Provost Jim Johnston of Falkirk, and Senator Dan Hayes. The wheel, shown in the background, is a feat of engineering that connects two canals spanning the breadth of the central belt of Scotland. The officials unveiled a plaque and bench placed in his name at this site, and officials are in discussion to also name a room in his honour at a facility in Camelon, the village of his birth.
