Council honours Gold Wings, on way to nationals

The coaches and players of the Southern Range Gold Wings gather with Mayor Debra Button, after each player and coach was presented with a special certificate of achievement at city council on Apr. 14. The AAA midget girls hockey team first won the provincials then the west regional championship to earn a berth at the Esso Cup at Stoney Creek, Ont. Games began on Sunday, and go through to Thursday, Apr. 24. Assistant coaches Paloma Proszak and Kevin Ripplinger are at the left, Alan Whitrow is at rear right and coach Chad Kish is at centre accepting his certificate from Mayor Button. The players include, not necessarily in order, Tamara Irwin, Kassidy Sjostrand, Jenica Whitrow, Madison Colbow, Karlee Jensen, Madison Casavant, Madison Solie, Ashten Sinclair, Whitney Thorp, Paige Smith, Caitlin Dempsey, and across the front from left are Jensen Hammer, Cassidy Pirlot, Baillee Bourassa, Jane Kish and Macy Liebreich.
