Crocus 80 casting for 'Jake and the Kid', youth theatre

Crocus 80 Theatre will host casting calls for both "Jake and the Kid - Prairie Seasons", and their Youth Summer Theatre Development Program.

Casting calls for "Jake and the Kid" will be Tuesday, June 3 and Saturday, June 7; and the Youth Summer Theatre Development Program will be Tuesday, June 3. All casting calls are at the Tommy Douglas Performing Arts Centre, at 7 p.m.

Both productions will commemorate W.O. Mitchell's 100th birthday, and will be staged at the Tommy Douglas Centre during the Wheat Festival on Thursday to Sunday, August 7 to 10.
Crocus 80 Theatre have permission from W.O. Mitchell Ltd. to produce the "Jake and the Kid - A Prairie Seasons" play. The play was adapted from the radio screenplays, which were written by W.O. Mitchell.

For "Jake and the Kid", Crocus 80 is seeking five adults, and one leading male youth. "We welcome all interested, enthusiastic and dedicated individuals and youth for acting and support roles," said Connie Nightingale, vice president of Crocus 80.

"Participants will have the awesome opportunity to learn performing arts that focus on building their imagination, creativity, stage presence, self-awareness and character development," said Nightingale.

There will be flexible rehearsals for "Jake and the Kid" three times a week during the months of June, July and early August.

For the Youth Theatre Development Program, Crocus 80 welcomes all interested, enthusiastic and dedicated youth between the ages of six to 18 to come out and participate.

"The young artists will share their work and everything that they have learned during the performances of 'Jake and the Kid'," said Nightingale. She added that there are limited spots available for the youth program.

In addition to seeking cast members, Crocus 80 is also seeking volunteers to assist with set building, technical support and as backstage crew. Interested residents can email crocus80theatre@gmail.com, or find them on Facebook.
