A Story in every Song

Christian-country singer and song writer Brent Mann truly believes that there is a tale of love, a moment of pain and a chapter of faith that are in his songs
Brett Mann

For Brent Mann, behind every song there is a story, a tale of love, a moment of pain and a chapter of faith.
The Christian-country singer and song writer was recently nominated for a Chosen Voice Award (CVA) in the Best Traditional Song category. The CVAs will be announced on March 26 in Tampa, Florida.
Local residents who want to help Brent win the Chosen Voice Award can nominate him by going online at www.chosenvoiceawards.com.
In addition to this news, Mann’s song “He’s Still Making Miracles” from his album “God Sees Big” is continuing to climb the CVM Top 100 charts.
Brent was born in the small coal-mining town of Bienfait. “The wind and dirt is always flying in the winter and summer surrounded by farms and small towns and where ice hockey wasn’t a way of life, it was life!”
“It was a small town were dad was boss and Christ was King.”
He is the middle sibling, with older brothers Dwaine and Dale, sister Carla and his younger brother Chris. Brent has a daughter Megan who resides in Canada. He and his wife Dora currently reside in southwest Florida.
For Brent his story is about both faith and music knowing that they were his signposts for the journey that lies ahead. “I learned the art of songwriting by listening to country legends such as Johnny Cash, Glenn Campbell, and to Christian singer songwriter Dottie Rambo.”
Brent started singing at the early age of three. “I was barely able to speak, but the songs would start to come out.”
Brent’s mother Hazel had a gorgeous singing voice and would sing with his “Father to the Family”. As a young boy, he would sing at the top of his lungs along with his father and mother in church during praise and worship services. His family moved to Weyburn, at four years old.
In third grade at Haig School, Brent performed his first on stage debut song “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” a duet with his good friend John. They received a standing ovation and that sparked Brent’s singing career.
In Grades 7, 8 and 9 at the Weyburn Junior High School, Brent auditioned and was chosen as one of only a handful of male tenors to be qualified to sing in the Saskatchewan Canada Honor Choir.
Mann had and still maintains a vocal range that is quite remarkable. Brent to this day can hold a consecutive vocal note for over 60 seconds. Mann achieved first place in every music festival he entered as tenor vocalist.
In his senior year of high school Brent played the lead role as actor Conrad Birdie in the Musical “Bye-Bye Birdie” to a standing room packed house every night.
Brent is also an accomplished drummer who used to play for the Sask. band “Country Gold”.
Brent was asked to be the lead singer for the band “Midnight Response”, so Brent shared the stage with Wendy, Jim, Rick, Drew, Louis, and the crew Steve and Barry. The band dissolved shortly after it got started as the other members of the band were older than Brent and all had moved on to college and university, while he remained in high school.
Brent graduated from the Weyburn Comprehensive in 1981.
Brent’s singing career started as many other performers did, as he sung for countless weddings and anniversaries. However, some of the most difficult times for him was having to sing for his father and mother’s funerals.
Brent’s love for moto- cross had grown also at this time and he raced at the pro level.
Since that time, Brent has honed his skills over the past decade, and now performs at venues across the United States and Canada at churches, fair dates and festivals.
Finding his way back to faith has been a long walk for Brent, but he’s not ashamed to talk about it.
“I’ve been wrong enough to know what right is,” said Mann, and always keeps Christ in front of his goals and dreams of his family and life.
He has reached success in the last few years, reaching first place in the “Reach for Stars” contest in Florida in 2012.
Mann was also the “Top of the Male Country Talent” in the Quest Competition held during season one at the X-Factor 2012 auditions in Miami. Brent delivered stunning performances in front of Simon Cowel, L.A. Reid, Cheryl Cole, and Paula Abdul in front of over 5,000 people in attendance.
Recently, in early 2014, Brent signed with VECA Records and has released his debut inspirational country debut CD titled “God Sees Big.”
Brent certainly has the wherewithal when it comes to delivering the message behind the music.
