Creelman Theatrical Club readies for dinner theatre

Creelman (cpd) — Plans are underway for Creelman Theatrical Club’s 34th annual dinner theatre.

Creelman (cpd) — Plans are underway for Creelman Theatrical Club’s 34th  annual dinner theatre. It has been a struggle the last couple of years to get enough volunteers to help, especially with hauling in the lumber to set up for the seating, building the set and hauling everything out again after it is over.

A community meeting was called in the spring to see if there would be enough volunteers who would commit for the eight-night run of performances. A vote was held at that meeting and it was decided to go ahead again another year.

Taking into consideration the number of volunteer hours to put on the dinner theatre it was decided to increase the price of the tickets. All of the money raised is donated to assist community groups, school teams/functions, students travel (Terry Fox Centre etc.) and people needing assistance for medical treatments. So for the price of one Roughrider game ticket, two people can enjoy an evening out with an excellent meal and a performance that is guaranteed to give some laughs.

The play will run for eight performances: Thursday, Nov. 27 to Sunday, Nov. 30, and Thursday, Dec. 4 to Sunday, Dec. 7. The Sunday shows are matinees and the rest are evening performances.

Tickets will go on sale Saturday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. (different from the usual 8 a.m.) at the Creelman Community Complex. Tickets can be bought in person or by phone (phone numbers for that evening only). Tickets are $50 each, with a limit of 30 tickets per person. For more information on tickets contact Shirley Anslow.

The play this year is “Out Of Sight … Out Of Murder” a comedy by Fred Carmichael. Author Peter Knight is writing a murder story in an old mansion where another author was murdered. A weird electrical storm happens and his characters come to life. There is the lovely ingenue, the trusty butler, a feisty character woman, a dauntless hero, a fascinating “other woman”, the always pregnant serving girl, and the wily lawyer waiting for midnight to read the will. There is a cast of nine: Pat Hume, Louanne Carnegie, Lorna Bossenberry, David Carnegie, Faye Hanson, LaVaughn Duxbury, Amber Keller, Cody Knoblauch and Kim Lockie.

There will be a work-bee on Saturday, Nov. 1, at 9 a.m. to clear out the Community Complex waiting room and move in the metal and lumber needed for seating and the set.

The Theatre Club is grateful to the people of Creelman and surrounding communities for volunteering their time to help out with the many jobs associated with putting on the annual dinner theatre and they are also grateful for the many patrons from across the province who have supported them.
