Lake Alma (cpd) - A come and go tea was held at the Wheatland Senior Centre in Weyburn on Aug. 10 for the 99th birthday of Hilda Anderson, who is a guest at Tatagwa View Nursing home in Weyburn. Her actual birthday was Aug. 6.
Approximately 70 relatives and friends signed the guest book. Special relatives attending were her son, Bob and Jean Anderson of Chittic Lake, Janet and Ian Bloder and daughter of Unity and Leeann and Jason Jewitt and daughter of Shellbrook. A family supper for 35 concluded the day at the activity room at Tatagwa View. Hilda's granddaughter Rhonda and Tom Harvey and two daughters from Edmonton spent Aug. 8 and 9 visiting with her and other relatives.
Approximately 60 relatives of Mabel Evert gathered in the Family Room at Hilltop Manor in Weyburn on Aug. 10 to celebrate her 95th birthday which had been that week. Relatives included sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews and cousins. A supper was brought in for immediate family members to conclude the day.
Trevor and Dawn Johnson and family of Melfort spent July 25, 26 and 27 in Weyburn where their daughter, Mackenzie, competed in a provincial swim meet.
They stayed with Joanne and Bryan Mass and Jaxon, and on July 25 were supper guests of his parents, Ken and Wanda Johnson, who are almost new occupants of the city, having been busy moving to their condo from Lake Alma. They celebrated a late birthday for Taylor and Mackenzie's birthday which was the next day. Trevor and Konner spent Aug. 1 and 2 with Ken and Wanda and drove back and forth to Regina where Konner attended a football camp.
Trevor and Dawn Johnson and family of Melfort arrived in Lake Alma on Aug. 6 to help his parents pack and move to their condo in Weyburn.
Joanne and Jaxon spent the day helping with the move, with Joanne returning to Weyburn later that day. Jaxon stayed until Aug. 7 to help. Wanda brought Jaxon home to Weyburn and the next day traveled to Regina.
Ken went to Regina on Aug. 9, along with Trevor and Dawn and family and Bryan, Joanne and Jaxon where they attended the come and go tea in honour of Laura and Allen Larsen's 60th wedding anniversary and Allen's 80th birthday in Regina.
There was also a potluck supper later that evening. Special attendees included Dennis and Karen Larsen of Carstairs, Alta., Fern and Morris Hillstead of Lethbridge, Alta., Lou Vonne and Orville Skjerdal of Moose Jaw, Delores and Duane Larsen, Mabel Larsen, Nina Kaufmann and Alvin Eikemo of Weyburn, Ted and Gertie Fladeland of Gladmar and Larry and Eleanor Skjerdal of Beaubier.
Clare and Ida Offet traveled to Moosomin on Aug. 8 were they joined family members and friends for a pre-wedding supper at Deena Offet and Todd Volk's. They went on to Rocanville after supper spending the night with Rick Brown and daughter Rachel. They returned to Moosomin on Aug. 9 and attended the wedding of Deena and Todd which took place in the backyard of Erin and Quinn Skulmoski.
The reception was held at the Armory and a dance followed. They returned to Moosomin again on Aug. 10 where they joined everyone for brunch before returning to Weyburn late that afternoon. The bride and groom left for Vegas for a short honeymoon, returning to Moosomin on Aug. 14. Marg and Harold Blackmore and Babs Schindel stayed with Callie, Jensen, Cael and Tahlaya and returned to Regina where Harold had a medical appointment.
Clare and Ida Offet and Duane and Delores Larsen were in Regina on Aug. 13 where Delores had an appointment.
On August 12th Kay and Doug Robinson of Billings, Montana, and Ron and Carol Lien of Thompson Lake spent the day with Carol's mother and Kay's aunt Belva Johnson at Tatagwa Nursing Home. Joining them were Garfield and Eleanor Loustel of Alameda, Elaine Roysum of Beaubier and Delores Larsen, Beverly Locken, and Vivian Johnson.
Close to 40 members of the "Petersen Family" gathered at the home of Tom and Linda Clausen in Beaubier on Aug. 9 for potluck barbecue and an evening of visiting. Wayne Von Hagen and Lynda were visiting from Australia and also Glen and Brenda Hyland of Saskatoon joined them.
Born to Raeann and Jeremy Zubiak of Cold Lake was a baby boy on Aug. 12, who was named Nash Braden. He weighed seven pounds and five ounces. Grandparents are Marlys (Locken) and Raymond Kuntz of Claresholm. Great-grandparents are Beverly Locken of Weyburn and Ralph and Evelyn Kuntz of Airdrie.
Duane and Delores Larsen of Weyburn visited with Paula Lohse and Royce at their farm on Aug. 11. They were joined by Brandon Lohse, Myrna Lohse, and Melissa Lohse for supper at the CanAm Country Inn at Oungre before returning home to Weyburn that evening.
Preston Shupe, son of Jackie (Field) and Jesse Shupe and grandson of Avis Field and Margaret Shupe left Weyburn on Aug. 7 for France where he will play professional hockey with the Strasbourg Black Stars. He has signed a one-year contract.
The Strasbourg Black Stars are in the Magnus League, the top level of ice hockey in France. Preston a former Red Wing, continued his hockey career with the Canisius Golden Griffins. His last year with the Golden Griffins was 2012-2013.
After graduating from Canisius College, Preston decided to explore options he had been offered taking the opportunity of seeing the world while playing a sport he loves.
He spent the last year playing professional hockey most of the time with the Columbus Cottonmouths, a team in the Southern Professional Hockey League. He now plays centre.
