Steele Sylvestre, an eight-year-old member from the Weyburn 4-H Beef Club, participated in the club public speaking, and came out of the club to continue on to the area, districts and regionals where she has successfully demonstrated her ability to public speak.
The topic she has chosen to speak about is “My idol”. Her idol is world champion barrel-racer Fallon Taylor. Steele is going on to the Provincial 4-H speaking competition in Canwood on Sunday, April 23, and the 4-H club wished her all the best.
Steele and her family also participated in Brandon Winter Fair this past March. She participated in the showmanship competition where she came out of her split to win third overall in the Junior division. Baydon Kot was third with his steer in his weight class.
Several members of the club went to the Cody Sibbald Classic in March as well.
All of the members did very well there but some of the highlights were:
Carter Goudy was reserve champion senior Black Angus heifer, Kylie Berner was second in her steer class,  Rylan Knupp was third in his weight class with his steer, Jackson Goudy was third in his steer weight class and Austin Knupp won his class with his commercial heifer.
The steers are weighed when they first get to the show and then are split according to their weights and show against animals that are of similar weights. The heifers are shown in classes of the same breed, and if they are not purebred, they show in a group that is called commercial.
Members of the 4-H club attended the Saskatoon Beef Expo on April 8 and 9. The club was well represented again by their members. Austin Knupp was reserve champion club yearling heifer. Jackson Goudy was third in the Simmental heifer class, and Carter Goudy was fourth in the Black Angus heifer division.
Jenna Knupp was second in the heavy weight steer division, Rylan Knupp was fourth in his weight class, and Jackson Goudy was fourth in his steer weight class.
The next show for the Weyburn club will be the Yorkton Steer and Heifer Show on April 21-22. There will be several members going to this one so it should be exciting to see how everyone does.
Then on Saturday, May 13, the South East Calf Cruze is here in Weyburn at the Fair grounds and all area residents are encourage to come out and watch. Many members use this show as a start to their show year while others are well into the trail of the show season.
