The CP Holiday Train will roll into Weyburn, featuring bright and colourful Christmas lights along its entire length, on Friday, Dec. 15, on the CP Rail siding parallel to Railway Avenue.
The Holiday Train is scheduled to arrive in Weyburn from Estevan around 5:45 p.m., with the stage car to feature the live performance from 6 to 6:30 p.m., with singers Terri Clark, Dallas Smith and Kelly Prescott to sing Christmas tunes.
There will be a presentation to the Salvation Army by CP Rail employees, and the Salvation Army will have a vehicle on site to collect donations of cash or non-perishable food items.
The CP Holiday Train program launched in 1999 and has since raised more than $13 million and four million pounds of food for communities along CP's routes in Canada and the United States. There are two trains which make their way across country, and the U.S. train comes up through North Portal to Weyburn before it heads on to Regina, and west to end in Calgary.
“The Holiday Train program is all about local food banks and food shelves and the critical role they play in our communities,” said Keith Creel, CP’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “People come for the beautifully-lit train and stay for the incredible show – all in the name of community. The holiday season is the best time of the year, and we look forward to bringing together thousands of Canadians and Americans this season for this incredibly important cause and a great time.”
Kelly Prescott is a third generation singer/songwriter, hailing from two musically renowned family lines. When her voice is blended with steel guitars and fiddles, country music lovers from way-back-when hear a kindred soul. When she spins the dial forward a few decades, it's clear she’s part of a new generation that’s making new sounds and big waves.
“I’ve been blessed to be a part of the CP Holiday Train for many years, yet this never gets old. In fact, it becomes more magical every year. To see firsthand the difference this program makes in each community is nothing short of incredible,” she said.
Platinum selling country star Dallas Smith has blazed a path across genres in Canadian music for nearly two decades and fans continue to prove they'll follow him wherever he wants to go. This Vancouver native has an armful of JUNO and CCMA Award wins and nominations and continues one of the most talked about journeys in Canadian country music.
“I was lucky enough to tour with the Holiday Train last year, and can't wait to be back on it. Helping the local food banks was a success last year and will be again this year,” said Smith.
Hailing from Medicine Hat, Alta., Terri Clark is a three-time JUNO Award winner, eight-time CCMA Entertainer of the Year and has taken home the Female Vocalist of the Year award five times. Terri has sold more than 4 million albums and 13 Top Ten singles including “Better Things To Do”, “Poor Poor Pitiful Me”, “Girls Lie Too”, and “I Just Wanna Be Mad”.
“I am thrilled to be a part of this year’s CP Holiday Train Tour along with my buddy, Dallas Smith. It will be amazing to personally witness the success of a program that gives directly back to each of the community food banks, and to get to play a few songs along the way,” said Clark.
