Lake Alma couple take in double grad celebrations

Lake Alma (cpd) - On June 8, Marlynn and Jeanette Whitteron attended a get-to-gather of approximately 80 relatives and friends at the home of their daughter Gwen and Wes Jacobson at Lumsden, to celebrate the graduation of their granddaughter, Jillian from university and the Grade 12 graduation of their grandson, Steven and the get-together of Gwen and Wes. A backyard barbecue with all the trimmings was enjoyed by all in attendance. Lynnette Gliko, Christin, Melissa and Kylie Kittleson of Havre, Mont., were special guests and spent the weekend with the Jacobsons.

Marlynn and Jeanette Whitteron of Weyburn accompanied by her sister, Marvelon Wilson of Regina traveled to Havre, Mont., on June 21 where they attended the wedding of their grand-daughter, Melissa Lynn Kittleson to Justin Todd Davis at the First Lutheran Church on June 22.

The reception was held at the Beaver Creek Golf Course. Also attending were Lance and Linda Whitteron, Chris and Matt and Gwen and Wes Jacobson, Jillian and Steven of Lumsden.

Melissa is the daughter of Lynette Gliko and Mark Kittleson. They all returned home on June 23.

Ken and Wanda Johnson met Ed and Joanne Kells of Spruce Grove, Alta., friends they had made while wintering in Arizona, in Weyburn on July 9 for a short visit. The Kells had spent a short holiday at Kenosee Lake and were on their way to Calgary. The Johnsons also checked out Pat and Dale Petersen's renovations to their new condo at #105 - 1808 Eaglesham Avenue while they were in Weyburn.

Clare and Ida Offet of Weyburn traveled to Regina on July 14 where they visited with their granddaughter Jessica Brown, her sister Marie and Donald Jacobson for coffee, their son Craig and Charmaine Offet and then with Harold and Marg Blackmore, Todd Volk and Deena Offet, Callie, Jensen, Cael and Tahlaya. Jensen, Cael and Tahlaya returned to Weyburn with the Offets and spent until July 18 with them when the Blackmores came and picked them up and took them back to Regina.

Marie Jacobson of Regina had lunch with Clare and Ida Offet at Weyburn on July 12, and then her and Ida traveled to Midale where they attended the service of remembrance for Marvin "Sonny" Claybo which was held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church at 2 p.m. with lunch following at the Civic Centre. Marvin passed away on July 8 at Weyburn Special Care Home and is survived by his wife Opal (nee Jorde) of Midale, sons: Marlin, Hinton, Alta., Glenn, Midale, Jerry, Sherwood Park, Alta.; sister Gladys Johnson, Outlook; as well as his brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Pastor Cicely McDougall officiated.

Interment was in Westphalia Cemetery, Midale that day.

Wanda Johnson and Elaine Roysum met Avis Field, Corine Pindus, Mable Larsen, Cathy Field, Darlene LaFoy, Jeanette Whitteron and Ida Offet at the CanAm Country Inn at Oungre on the evening of July 18 where they enjoyed supper and a visit and birthday cake to help Elaine celebrate her birthday, which is coming up on August 4.

Marlynn and Jeanette Whitteron traveled to Lundar, Man., July 15 where they visited with Karen Janke. Bruce and Erna Janke and family joined them for supper that evening and the next day Marlynn was taken by Bruce on a tour of the countryside and Jeanette and Karen did the same. The Whitterons returned home on July 17.

The descendants of Leo and Ida Hoffart held a family reunion at Mainprize Park at Midale on the weekend of July 5-7, and also celebrated the 40th wedding anniversary of Marie (Hoffart) and Wade Hansen of Gull Lake. A very enjoyable time was had by all in attendance.

Garnet and Elaine Roysum attended the 40th wedding anniversary celebration of Stuart and Mona Bloor held at their daughter Laurie and Tim Gervais' farm near Estevan on July 13. It rained and the power was out for a time but a very enjoyable time was had by all in attendance.

Kitch and Deb Milford of Carstairs, Alta., Teresa Milford, Lucas and Issac of Calgary, and Lorraine Roysum of Weyburn were dinner guests with Garnet and Elaine Roysum on July 16.

Jens Roysum joined them and had a good time playing with Lucas and Issac.

A Century Family Farm celebration of the founding of Severt Storle's home quarter was held June 28 at the home of Wayne and Mavis Storle.

Family in attendance were Dustin, Venessa and Bella Storle, Weyburn; Lorraine and Ray Ball, Penticton, B.C.; Scott Storle and Kel Plourd, Osoyoos, B.C.; Kevin Storle, Oliver, B.C.; Pat and Ron Hill, Grande Prairie, Alta.; Victoria Storle, Regina; Marilyn DeLaet and Laurie Barton, Saskatoon; Juliette Storle, Weyburn; Chuck and Valerie Storle, L.A.; Marc Storle, L.A.; Clarke and Dianne Storle, Regina; Kristine Storle, Regina; Greg, Tina, Tristan and Randy Storle, L.A.; Courtney, Orry, Mykelle and Daxon Doud, Weyburn.

Other friends attended from Radville, Weyburn, Oungre, Regina, Calgary, Arcola, Arizona, Wyoming, Toronto and a handful from the community.

Wayne welcomed everyone to the farm and thanked them for coming. Scott then read a history of the farm. Mavis presented each of the daughters-in-law and grandchildren of Severt Storle with a Century Family Farm Award in recognition of the Storle family having continuously farmed the home quarter for 100 years. Pastor Larry Ramsfield gave the blessing.

Barbecued hamburgers and hot dogs were served accompanied by numerous salads and watermelon which were brought by the Storle families. This was followed by a cake decorated with the Century Farm logo of a man plowing with his team of horses.

There was lots of visiting, looking at old pictures, touring of the blacksmith shop and the old house which has housed four generations of Storles. Many old items were on display in the house to look at. A poster-sized certificate of title of Severts' (awarded to Wayne and Mavis at the Century Family Farm Award Ceremony at Regina in May) was posted. On display in the tent was the new metal farm gate sign that Mavis and Wayne designed.

Pictures were taken of all the Storles in attendance.

Young and old took turns driving Wayne and Chuck's old John Deere tractors around the yard.

The kids had fun playing outdoor games and riding on the tractors with their Grandpas or Dads.

Soon after the bonfire was lit, Wayne entertained everyone with a huge fireworks display.

Mother Nature, not to be outdone, lit up the skies with a spectacular display of Northern Lights to top off the evening.
