Playing for Humboldt, ‘for the love of the game’

Grade 1 and 2 students from St. Michael School chase the ball during a mini-sticks floor hockey tourament on Wednesday, held as part of a three-day floor hockey tournament in honour of the Humboldt Broncos, and the victims of the team bus crash on April 6. These grades played on Wednesday, Grades 3-5 played on Thursday, and Grades 6-9 played on Friday, with students urged to wear the Broncos team colours of green and yellow. The tournament was set up and run by the Grade 7-16 class with the theme, “For the Love of the Game, We Play for Humboldt”, expanded to all of the grades due to the overwhelming response of students wanting to play. Donations made during the tournament were added to the $1,261 raised by a bake sale for the Broncos’ GoFundMe page.
