Saskatchewan 4-H judging hosted by Weyburn

Judging is a skill encouraged for all 4-H members regardless of their livestock background. Weyburn was the location for the Saskatchewan 4-H Provincial Judging hosted by Weyburn Ag Society on August 12-13.

Judging is a skill encouraged for all 4-H members regardless of their livestock background. Weyburn was the location for the Saskatchewan 4-H Provincial Judging hosted by Weyburn Ag Society on August 12-13.
A total of 28 competitors aged 16-21 were in attendance and they judged working dogs, bred heifers, yearling bulls, alpacas, hay, grain, light horses, along with a mystery class of chip bags.
Official judges for Provincials were Kyle Ashworth, who judged bulls and supplied bulls and heifers; Logan Martinson, who judged heifers; Laurie Levee Wolter, who judged and supplied light horses; Glenda Shotter, who judged and supplied alpacas; Lorne Klein, who judged and supplied hay; and Russ Roome, who judged working dogs.
Others who helped make this event successful to supply classes were Melody McNaughton, who brought her dogs, and Parrish & Heimbecker, who supplied grain samples.
The top five competitors received prizes for six of the eight classes judged, and sponsors who supplied prizes were Vandy Cattle, Ashworth Farm & Ranch, Affinity Credit Union, Farm Credit Canada, Young’s Equipment, Weyburn Ag Society and Gordon Show Cattle, which awarded the Grand Aggregate. Other sponsors of this event were SAASE, South Country Equipment, Weyburn Credit Union, Saskatchewan 4-H Council, and Ritchie Bros Auctioneers.
The top eight competitors from this event move on to Canadian Western Agribition in November and will get to compete against members from other provinces across Canada as well as teams from universities and colleges. Volunteers for this event included Brittany Stepp (chairperson of committee), Kelsey Dale, Charlene Wimmer, Bev Gordon and Samantha Chymy helped in the office.
Members from across Saskatchewan can choose a region to participate in regional judging, no matter what 4-H project they participate in.
Local 4-H clubs sent 32 competitors aged 6-21 to regional judging hosted by Weyburn Ag Society on July 4 during the Weyburn Fair.
Members judged market steers, bull calves, light horses, laying hens, and hay. Official judges for this event were Megan Rosso, who judged market steers; Diana Tosczak, who judged bull calves; Jade Ivan judged light horses; Brittany Stepp, who judged laying hens and Lorne Klein who judged hay. Beef stock were supplied by volunteers attending Weyburn Fair, light horses were supplied by Fallon Brydon and Sarah Underwood, laying hens were supplied by Bev Gordon and hay samples were supplied by Brittany Stepp.
Sandy’s Safety Service sponsored gift cards to the top competitors of their age group: Kaitlyn Stepp (Cloverbuds), Corin Acton (Junior), Mason Beck (Intermediate), and Remi Mitchell (Senior). Volunteers for this event were Janice Ashworth, Charlene Wimmer and Samantha Chymy, who finished all the paperwork in the office. The top eight from this event received jackets sponsored by South Country Equipment. The team consisted of Remi Mitchell (Fillmore/Francis), MacKenzie Perras (Fillmore/Francis), Evan Sebastian (Fillmore/Francis), Dylan Thackeray (Lomond Beef), Angel Grieve (Fillmore/Francis), Alexis Ashworth (Lomond Beef), Alex Perras (Fillmore/Francis), and Shelby Robinson (Lomond Beef). The alternate winner was Owen Ashworth (Lomond Beef).
