The capital steering committee for the proposed new hospital for Weyburn will be meeting on Friday, Dec. 15, to look at the next steps to follow.
The committee, which includes the City of Weyburn and the Ministry of Health, is going to review the Request for Proposal (RFP) for putting out a tender for a project manager, and for what the next steps in the planning will be for the new hospital, including possible sites for the hospital, said Dean Biesenthal, former acting CEO of Sun Country.
Currently, he is the vice-president of Human Resources and interim v-p of health facilities for this region, which is now under the Saskatchewan Health Authority.
The hospital project had been put on hold “because there wasn’t a formal go-ahead, so we didn’t think it was prudent to proceed,” said Biesenthal.
The project is stalled at step 5 of an 18-step process, which is the step to put out a tender for a project manager to begin planning.
“It’s still very preliminary,” said Biesenthal of the process.
