At the opening ceremonies of the 108th Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities (SARM) Annual Convention in Saskatoon on March 12, Audrey Trombley was awarded the Lieutenant Governor's Award for Outstanding Service to Rural Saskatchewan.
At the opening ceremonies of the 108th Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities (SARM) Annual Convention in Saskatoon on March 12, Audrey Trombley was awarded the Lieutenant Governor's Award for Outstanding Service to Rural Saskatchewan. The award was presented to Audrey by the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan, the Honourable Vaughn Solomon Schofield.
The award was established in 1995 by Canada Post, SARM and the Office of the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan. The award is now sponsored by SaskPower, SARM and the Office of the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan. A selection committee reviews the nominations and selects one individual annually for his or her achievements in making rural Saskatchewan a better place to live.
Over the years Audrey has been involved in business, administration and all aspects of rural Saskatchewan. After running her own business at Torquay, Audrey began working at the Village of Halbrite, then the Town of Midale, then the R.M. of Estevan and the RM of Griffin.
Audrey was never "just" the administrator. Audrey's contribution to the RM of Griffin, the hamlet of Griffin, the Griffin community and Saskatchewan as a whole can never be measured in any way. She was/is involved in community events, agriculture, the farm crisis, rail transportation, oil and gas industry, education, health and the list goes on.
Although Audrey retired from the RM of Griffin at the end of 2011, she continues to provide training and mentorship to new administrators and has also temporarily provided her administration services to RMs that find themselves without a current administrator.
Among her many achievements Audrey was the first female member of SARM (1994-1998), the first female President of the Rural Municipal Administrators' Association (RMAA) (1994-1998), the first female member of the Municipal Employees Pension Plan Board (1999-2003) and now the first female recipient of the Lieutenant Governor's Award for Outstanding Service to Rural Saskatchewan. Also in May 2004 Audrey was awarded the RMAA Lou Jacobs Award for outstanding service to rural Saskatchewan.
Audrey was nominated by the RM of Griffin No. 66 and by the RM of Souris Valley No. 7.
