Weyburn Comp plans for grad, awards night

Graduation for the Weyburn Comprehensive School takes place this Saturday, June 10, with the ceremonies at 10 a.m., the punch reception at 2 p.m. and the Grand March at 8, all at the Cugnet Centre. The ticket-only supper is at 5:30 p.m.

Graduation for the Weyburn Comprehensive School takes place this Saturday, June 10, with the ceremonies at 10 a.m., the punch reception at 2 p.m. and the Grand March at 8, all at the Cugnet Centre. The ticket-only supper is at 5:30 p.m. at the Curling Rink and the invitation-only Chem Free Grad is at the school starting after the grand march.
The WCS Activity Awards Night will be held on Tuesday, June 13, starting at 7 p.m. in the Cugnet Centre. At that time, all the MVP and coach awards will be given out for all WCS teams, along with awards for the STARS Show Choir, jazz bands, SRC, yearbook and musicals.
The major awards to be presented include the Bethel Trophy (top athletic in sportsmanship, leadership and participation), George Pierce Spirit of Youth Trophy, Andrews and Wilder Trophy (top female athlete), Rose Brothers Trophy (top male athlete) and the Performing Arts Trophy (top actor). Block and Super Block W’s will also be presented for participation (120 points for a Block W and 240 points for a Super Block W) in all extra-curricular activities. Parents and the public are invited to share in the recognition of the students in extra-curricular activities for the year.
WCS had its best showing in many years at the SHSAA Provincial Track Championships this past weekend in Saskatoon. WCS athletes captured two gold, going to Brett Bowler and Austin Lund; three silvers, won by Paul Dionne, Mary Sidloski and Axel Lund; and one bronze, won by Paul Dionne.
The SRC hosted a very well-run and well-attended “Relay For Life” over the weekend.
There is a Health and Anatomy Symposium in the Cugnet Centre on Monday, June 12, from noon to 3 p.m. There is also a Senior Prom on Wednesday, June 14.
The final music concerts for the year will be held on Monday, June 19 (Senior Music Concert) and Tuesday, June 20 (Junior Music Concerts), in the Cugnet Centre.
