The City of Weyburn is pleased the governments of Canada and Saskatchewan will provide a combined total of more than $4 million towards the municipality’s water meter and service line replacement infrastructure project.
The federal government will contribute up to $2,719,750 and the provincial government will contribute up to $1,359,875 towards the City project.
“I'm very pleased that our federal and provincial governments continue to show their commitment to investment in our key infrastructure, which is vital to the functionality of our City,” said Mayor Marcel Roy. “City infrastructure, as we know, is an investment that has a great impact on our economic, social and environmental conditions.”
The joint announcement on Friday by the federal and provincial governments was welcome news to Weyburn Coun. Jeff Richards.
“Maintaining and improving the water and sewer infrastructure is one of the most important jobs a municipality has. We're fortunate that in Weyburn over the years our leaders have paid close attention to this,” said Coun. Richards. “Today's announcement of funding to modernize our water meters and do some service line upgrades will ensure we keep moving our City forward.”
Mayor Roy expressed gratitude to the two levels of government, and said it is the relationships between the different levels of government that allows for the success of our country, province and city.
“The funding for this infrastructure project shows that the three levels of government – federal, provincial and municipal – are committed to the health and well-being of the citizens we serve,” said Mayor Roy.
