City police investigate noise complaints, scams

The Weyburn Police Service attended several complaints of noise bylaw violations resulting from residential parties. There is a noise bylaw in the City that carries heavy financial penalties and potentially a court appearance. The city police would like to remind everyone to keep their gatherings manageable and to be respectful of their neighbors.
The Weyburn Police Service received numerous complaints reporting scams of various descriptions. The most common are the “Canada Revenue Agency coming to get you if you don’t pay now” and “family member is in jail and you must post bail now” scams.
City police would like to remind everyone to be very careful when they find themselves approached either by phone or online. Scammers are very good at what they do and are sometimes not easy to detect. If something seems odd, it probably is. Residents are encouraged to contact the city police if they have any concerns about any contacts that have been made.
City police received a complaint of fraud on Saturday. An adult female has lost $2,600 after falling victim to a scam. The matter is under investigation.
City police responded to a complaint of mischief to a vehicle in the central part of the city on Thursday. Unknown persons had smashed the glass in a vehicle that was parked. The matter is under investigation.
Police responded to a hit-and-run in the north-central area of the city on Thursday. An unknown vehicle had struck a parked vehicle causing damage, and the unknown vehicle fled the scene without reporting the damage to the owner or the police. The matter is under investigation.
Police responded to a second complaint of mischief to a vehicle parked in the north end of the city on Thursday. Unknown persons caused damage to the window of a parked vehicle. The matter is under investigation.
Police received a complaint of a sexual assault involving a female under the age of 18 and an adult male on Saturday. The matter was investigated and the male was charged with one count of sexual assault, two counts of sexual interference and one count of failing to comply with the conditions of an undertaking. The adult male was released from custody with a pending court date.

Police responded to a domestic dispute in the east end of the city on July 10. Neighbours reported hearing yelling and arguing, and an adult female and an adult male were found to be having a verbal altercation. Police assisted in calming the situation and no charges were laid.
City police responded to a report of an intoxicated adult male who had fallen down on the sidewalk in the north-central area of the city on Thursday. Police and EMS attended, and the adult male was transported to the Weyburn General Hospital with undetermined injuries.
Police received a request to conduct a well-being check on an adult female in the south end of the city on Friday. Family reported having not heard from or being able to contact the adult female for some time. Police responded and discovered the female to be in the process of moving, and all was well.

Police responded to a complaint of a fight in a public place in the east end of the city on Saturday, where witnesses reported two males fighting. Police attended and found two adult males having an altercation. The males were known to each other and the matter resolved peacefully. No charges were laid.
