City police investigates possible child porn case

The Weyburn Police Service is investigating a report relating to the distribution of child pornography. This usually happens when one person (the sender) sends an intimate image to a friend. This act in and of itself may be unlawful.

The Weyburn Police Service is investigating a report relating to the distribution of child pornography. This usually happens when one person (the sender) sends an intimate image to a friend. This act in and of itself may be unlawful. But, when that friend forwards the sender’s image on without their permission it is a criminal offence. Depending on the age of the person it can easily fall into the category of distributing child pornography. If charged and convicted, this offence carries a minimum period of jail time.
Weyburn police are looking for the public’s assistance in identifying a suspicious vehicle or individual. In the early morning hours on Saturday, a person awoke to find someone in their yard. The male person fled in what was described as a black Cavalier car. Anyone having information on this is asked to contact either the Weyburn Police Service, or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
Weyburn police is asking for assistance in identifying whoever is responsible for breaking out a rear vehicle window on a vehicle parked in the 1000 block of Railway Avenue on Wednesday. Anyone having information on this is asked to contact either the Weyburn Police Service, or call Crime Stoppers.
Weyburn police are investigating a report of a theft of tools from a business vehicle on Jan. 8.
City police received a report of a suspected impaired driver seen leaving a business. The vehicle or driver was not located.
A curfew check was conducted on an individual subject to court-ordered curfew conditions on Jan. 9. The male was not in the residence and has been charged with breaching that order.
Weyburn police received more than one call this week regarding what is referred to as ‘gas drive offs’. In most instances the person filling their vehicle simply forgot to then go in and pay. These are, however, criminal investigations that can have significant consequences for the person. Police urges everyone to give more attention to the task of fuelling up so this does not happen.
City police received a report of cyber-bullying on Wednesday. The matter has been mediated and will hopefully end.
Weyburn police received a number of calls this week about a CRA scam where the caller is asking for a Social Insurance number. As always, police urge people receiving such calls to be extra diligent before giving out any personal information.
City police received a call on Wednesday about an unattended dog that barks continually. As a result of the investigation, a ticket under the City bylaw was issued to the animal owner. As often happens an animal may not bark when the owner is at home, but when the owner is away the animal begins to bark. Dog owners are responsible for any dogs on their property 24 hours per day, regardless of whether the owner is present or not.
On Thursday, Weyburn police charged a 43-year-old male with breaching a court-ordered condition not to possess illegal drugs. This person will be making a court appearance.
City police responded to a number of calls where Mental Health issues were the underlying cause.
Meanwhile, the Fillmore RCMP received a complaint of a break-and-enter to a business in Stoughton on Thursday morning, as a large amount of copper wire was stolen from that location.
Fillmore RCMP received a second complaint later in the day, in which rolls of copper wire had been located at a rural property near Stoughton. While officers from Fillmore detachment were investigating at the location where the wire was recovered, two males returned to the scene.
These individuals were taken into custody and were subsequently charged with the theft. Further search revealed a quantity of a substance believed to be crystal meth. The two males appeared in Estevan Provincial Court on Monday.
Estevan RCMP responded to a report of a man who had been struck by a vehicle on Highway 39, just north of Estevan at around 5:50 p.m. on Jan. 8. The 44-year-old man from Midale was the lone occupant of a vehicle pulled over to the side of the road.
The victim is Mike Sarada, who was a coach with the Estevan bantam AA hockey team.
Initial investigation has determined that he had exited his vehicle and was struck by a passing semi. The driver of the semi was not injured and remained at the scene until police arrived.
An RCMP Collision Reconstruction investigator attended the scene. Traffic was detoured for a period of time, and was re-opened late Monday night. The investigation is ongoing.
