• Weyburn police received a complaint of a possible intruder into a residence at about 4:15 a.m. on Friday. Upon investigation, a 34-year-old highly intoxicated male was located. As a result of that investigation, the police are now able to report that a 22-year-old local male has been identified as the driver and has been charged with dangerous driving and with evading police, and will be making a court appearance. In a related matter, the same accused has also been charged with public mischief for misleading the police that his vehicle had been stolen.
• In addition, the city police received and dealt with 16 reports of fraud scams, including for the STARS Lottery, Canada Revenue Agency, and ‘family member in jail’ scams. While there was an actual victim in one case, the remainder of the cases saw no loss to the victim.
Police continue to urge residents to be aware that in Canada it is illegal to charge any form of fee, tax, claim fee, etc., for the winning of a lottery prize. It is also not a legitimate business practice to pay for CRA indebtedness or ‘police bail’ with iTunes cards.
