Police investigate hit-and-runs, and collisions

The Weyburn Police Service received multiple complaints of hit-and-run collisions. A collision occurred at the intersection of First Avenue and Second Street on Dec. 5, resulting in one driver being charged for failing to yield to oncoming traffic when turning left.
A collision occurred at the intersection of Bison Avenue and Fifth Street on Dec. 5, resulting in one driver being charged for driving at a speed greater than is reasonable and safe.
A collision occurred at the intersection of Coteau Avenue and Seventh Street, resulting in one motorist being transported to the hospital by ambulance on Dec. 5. The injured motorist suffered a concussion and was treated and released. One driver was charged for proceeding from a stop sign before safe to do so.
Officers were called to a domestic dispute at a local residence on Dec. 6. Further investigation resulted in a 21-year-old male being charged with assault. A ninemonth-old child was present in the home at the time of the incident.
Two younger females are currently under investigation for the theft of a pair of boots from the Weyburn Peavey Mart on Dec. 6.-Officers were dispatched to a report of a possible break-and-enter to a local residence on Wednesday. A storm door appeared to have been kicked but entry was not gained. The residence was a rental home and the date of the damage is unknown, and no suspects have been identified.
A local resident reported that a dark-coloured SUV drove over his lawn twice on Thursday. No further description was available and patrols of the area were negative.
Weyburn police were dispatched to a call of an intoxicated male walking eastbound on First Avenue near Queen Street on Thursday. Officers located a 55-year-old male carrying a sleeping bag walking on the side of the road. The male was very intoxicated and had a warrant for his arrest out of Regina. The male was lodged in cells until sober, then released following the warrant being executed.
Police are investigating an incident of an assault with a weapon occurring between two youths on Friday. The youth are family members and the matter remains under investigation.
A motorist reported her vehicle was damaged by an unknown vehicle while parked at her place of employment on Friday. Investigation identified the offending vehicle and the driver was spoken to. The male explained he was unaware he made contact with another vehicle but acknowledged that he was responsible. The driver was charged under the Traffic Safety Act for unsafe backing.
Police responded to an alarm at a local establishment on Friday. A key-holder was unavailable and no signs of forced entry were found, but officers noticed a water leak at the rear of the establishment while on scene. The manager of the establishment was contacted and advised.
While on patrol on Saturday, an officer spotted tire tracks in the snow leading up to a tree located along 16th Street between Coteau Avenue and East Avenue. Vehicle debris was located at the scene as contact with the tree was made but the tree appeared to be relatively undamaged. There was no vehicle or driver on scene and no suspects have been identified at this time.
A local citizen reported being contacted by telephone by an unknown individual stating he had $65,000 for her. She was given a number to call back once she had cash or a cheque ready to pay the delivery people. The citizen recognized the situation to be a scam and no money was lost as a result of the incident.
During patrol on Saturday, an officer located an unoccupied vehicle stuck in a snow bank in the southwest park of the city. The vehicle was checked and determined to be unregistered. While on scene, a 19-year-old male attended the scene to dig his vehicle out. The male admitted to driving the unregistered vehicle and advised that he lost control due to icy roads and got stuck in the snow bank. The officer helped the male get his vehicle out, but he was also issued a ticket under the TSA for operating an unregistered vehicle.
Weyburn police assisted a local resident who received a disturbing message on Sunday and was worried about her son in Maple Ridge, B.C. The RCMP in that jurisdiction was contacted and confirmed the well-being of her son.
Weyburn police also assisted a local motorist who reported an erratic driver on a highway near Weyburn on Sunday. The information was obtained and relayed to the local RCMP.
