Police services focus on impaired driving in Weyburn

Members of CTSS (Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan), which consist of members of the RCMP, Estevan and Weyburn Police Services, conducted a traffic initiative focusing on combating impaired driving in and around Weyburn.

Members of CTSS (Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan), which consist of members of the RCMP, Estevan and Weyburn Police Services, conducted a traffic initiative focusing on combating impaired driving in and around Weyburn. During the evening the CTSS members conducted numerous vehicle checks.
During the course of the evening one male driver was stopped and charged with impaired drive and drive while over .08. He was subsequently released to appear in court at a later date. Also during the evening a vehicle was stopped and during the investigation the male driver grabbed his driver’s license and drove away at a high speed. Police pursued the vehicle for a short time before it was terminated for public safety reasons.
The suspect driver of the vehicle which had fled from the police check stop turned himself into the Weyburn Police on Saturday. The 24-year-old male was subsequently charged with evading police, dangerous driving and assaulting a police officer. He was later released from custody and will be appearing in court at a later date.
• Police were called to a break and enter of a garage on Thursday, after the owners noticed tools missing. It appears entrance had been gained through an unlocked door and a quantity of tools and tool boxes were stolen. The investigation into this incident continues.
• A member to the CTSS conducted a traffic stop on Saturday and found a 29-year-old female who was displaying signs of impairment by alcohol. The subsequent investigation resulted in a 72-hour driver license suspension.
• The Weyburn Police Service received a fraud complaint on Oct. 11 after a local business had mailed a cheque to a client, but the cheque had been altered and redirected to another company. The incident remains under investigation.
• Members of the Weyburn Police Service were called to a residence on Oct. 9 regarding an intoxicated individual who was no longer wanted in the home. The male had left the house upon police arrival, though the individual was located a short distance away. The male was given a ride to his own residence, and no charges were laid.
• The Weyburn Police received a call on Oct. 11 of a missing adult who has medical issues. An investigation was initiated as police conducted numerous checks within the city. Approximately four hours later police received a call the individual had been located. The incident remains under investigation.
