This week Weyburn police received three different type of fraud scams via telephone and computer, including Microsoft Windows, Sasktel Mobility and Canada Revenue Agency.

This week Weyburn police received three different type of fraud scams via telephone and computer, including Microsoft Windows, Sasktel Mobility and Canada Revenue Agency. Police would like to warn the public to be cautious of providing any personal information over the phone or computer and/or money, money transfers or gift cards. If the public has any concerns please call police before taking any action regarding any suspicious calls or email.
Police attended to a report of a fire hydrant being hit and damaged on Ebel Road on April 10. If anyone has and information please contact the Weyburn Police Service.
Members attended to Clark Avenue on a report of a licence plate being stolen from a vehicle on April 10. Further investigation led to a 28-year-old female being charged with tampering with a motor vehicle under the Traffic Safety Act.
City police responded to a report of a male slumped over the steering wheel in his truck parked on the 400 block of Fifth Street in the early morning hours of April 11. A 35-year-old male was arrested and given a three-day driving suspension which was alcohol related. Further investigation lead to the male being charged with possession of morphine and methamphetamine.
Police received a report of a theft from a vehicle that was parked at a business located in the 10 block of 12th Street on April 11. Numerous items, including tools and electronic equipment, were taken. This matter is still under investigation and police are asking the public for any information regarding this incident.
City police set up two high-visibility traffic check stops on Wednesday, where an excess of 200 vehicles were stopped with only one Traffic Safety Act charge laid.
Police responded to a domestic call in the 1600 block of Eaglesham Avenue on Thursday. Investigation revealed that a 26-year-old female assaulted a 40-year-old male and alcohol was involved. This matter is still under investigation.
Members were called to a hit-and-run motor vehicle accident that occurred in the 600 block of Barber Crescent on Saturday. Witnesses reported seeing a green car possibly a Ford or Mazda leaving the area. Anyone with information regarding this matter please contact Weyburn Police Service.
Police received a call of a possible impaired driver on Sunday. Members located the suspect vehicle and a 24-year-old female was given a roadside test which resulted in a 72-hour driving suspension, alcohol related.
City police were on general patrol and did a roadside traffic stop on Monday which resulted in a 23-year-old male being charged with failure to comply with conditions of his release on another matter.
Members of the Weyburn police were dispatched to a residence in the downtown area after receiving a call of a domestic dispute which had escalated into a physical altercation on April 4. The investigation resulted in a 27-year-old woman being arrested and charged with assault and later released from custody to appear in court later this month.
The Weyburn Police Service was dispatched in the early morning hours to assist the RCMP at a single vehicle rollover 3 km west of the city on Highway 13 on April 5. Police attended and found a half-ton truck rolled into the ditch and partially submerged in water. The driver had been able to exit the vehicle and was not injured.
The investigation determined the driver was under the influence of alcohol and he was subsequently arrested. The driver, a 17-year-old male, was charged with impaired driving, and driving while over .08. He was released from custody to appear later in court.
The Weyburn Police Service were called to a residence in northwest area of the City on April 2 after getting reports of a person causing damage. The occupants advised that the individual who had been causing problems had been in the house but was now locked outside the residence and was banging on the door, causing damage.
Upon arrival police approached the individual who then fled on foot, after a short foot pursuit the individual was apprehended. Arrested was a 48-year-old female, who was charged with resisting arrest and was lodged in cells. Alcohol was a factor and the accused was released from custody when sober. She will appear in court at a later date.
City police received a complaint of individuals obtaining food by fraud from a local restaurant on April 7. The complainant had advised police a couple had left the restaurant without paying for their meal. The incident remains under investigation.
During the past week police responded to a number of bylaw complaints relating to dogs. The Weyburn Police Service received complaints of dogs running at large, as well as numerous complaints of barking dogs. Dog owners are reminded that it is your responsibility to maintain control of your pet at all times, including ensuring your neighbors are not disturbed by the barking of the dog. Those individuals who fail to control their pets could face a charge under the City of Weyburn Bylaw.
