Weyburn police investigates stolen hot tubs from city business

Police received a complaint that a brand new hot tub (still wrapped) was sitting in the driving lane on Prairie Avenue on Saturday. The tub was found to have been stolen from a local business.

A check on their inventory indicated that a total of three hot tubs had been stolen. An individual had purchased two new hot tubs and a trailer in Melville; following the purchase he had contacted the RCMP. Once everything was processed it was determined that the trailer had been stolen from another local business and was used in the theft. Weyburn Police Service and the Melville RCMP are investigating the theft.

Police received a report of a stolen trailer from a local business on Nov. 17. It is described as a 2012 Transport Trailer, license number 386IPF.

After conducting an investigation of a vehicle theft and arson, police have charged two 17-year-old males from Weyburn. One youth is charged with fraud and mischief, while the second is charged with mischief, theft and arson. Both youths will be appearing in court in December.

Police were dispatched to assist a father with his suicidal son who left the residence in his vehicle with a machete on Sunday. An officer located the vehicle and conducted a high-risk take-down. A 17-year-old male was arrested and the machete was seized. He was transported to the Weyburn General Hospital where he was seen by a physician and kept overnight for observation.

Police received a call that a 42-year-old male drove into a residential garage door on Saturday, damaging the door and the vehicle inside. The suspect was located by an officer. He was arrested and subsequently charged with two counts of breaching an undertaking, dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and entering a dwelling with the intent to commit an offence.

Police received a 911 call regarding an out-of-control 14-year-old female on Nov. 17. The girl had a fight with her parents and they required assistance in calming her down. She had settled down when officers arrived and no further action was taken. Officers responded to a second call approximately an hour later after the girl had tried to harm herself. She was taken to the hospital and eventually to the Mental Health facility.

Officers dealt with a 34-year-old male and a 23-year-old female who were sending unwanted texts to each other on Nov. 18. They were advised to stop texting each other, no charges were laid in the incident.

The son of a 60-year-old man called police requesting assistance in locating his father who suffers from mental health issues. He had left a local business and could not be found. An officer found the man; he agreed to go to the Mental Health facility.

A male called police on Nov. 18 requesting that officers try to locate his girlfriend, a 23-year-old female that had taken a number of prescription medication pills. An officer spoke to the girl’s parents; the mother called the girl and received an assurance that she was okay. The parents said that they would look after her, no further assistance was needed.

A concerned neighbour called the police after she saw five males going door to door. They had been at an older couple’s residence for quite some time and she was concerned for the elderly couple’s safety. An officer checked on the people and they were fine, it had been a legitimate group of fundraisers.

Officers responded to a local restaurant regarding a fight on Nov. 18. A number of intoxicated males were found as well as broken glasses and tables that had been pushed. Two males were removed and taken to a local motel. The costs of the damages and the restaurant bill itself were settled between the business and the patrons. No charges were laid in the disturbance.

Police responded to a complaint of a shoplifter at the Weyburn Liquor Store. A 73-year-old female had left the store without paying for a bottle of liquor. An officer located the woman and she paid for the product. The business did not want any charges laid.

Officers responded to a residence and assisted EMS personnel after receiving a call that a 46-year-old female had taken all of her prescription medications on Nov. 19. They left the residence a short time later as their assistance was no longer required.

A 6X10 sign was stolen off of a local business on Nov. 19; the sign is valued at $1,200.

Police received a call from a local conservation officer requesting that an officer check on a complaint he received on Thursday. A male with a dog and a gun may have been hunting in the Souris Valley grounds. An officer located a 62-year-old male in a vehicle. He was subsequently charged with driving while disqualified and driving an unregistered motor vehicle. His vehicle was seized and impounded for 30 days.

Police responded to a local bar regarding two males who refused to leave on Friday. Two 25-year-old males left at the officer’s request. They returned a short time later, they were arrested and lodged in police cells for the night.

An officer performed a traffic stop on Saturday, and a 53-year-old male was found to be impaired. He was arrested and taken to Weyburn Police Service. He was subsequently charged with impaired driving and driving while over .08.

Police received a call from a local bar after a patron’s truck was stolen on Saturday. The vehicle was located on Sims Avenue, where it had collided with a light standard. An officer is investigating the theft and damage to the vehicle.

Police conducted a traffic stop on Highway 39 east of Weyburn on Nov. 15. As a result the driver, a 28-year-old male, was checked and found to be reported missing from Alberta. A further investigation found the accused had in his possession, 13 grams of crystal meth. The accused is also facing charges of obstructing a police officer, driving with no license and driving an unregistered vehicle. The accused was held in custody and appeared in court on Nov. 18 in Weyburn court; he was released from custody, and is to reappear on Dec. 9.

Police attended to a motor vehicle accident at 18th and Warren Avenue on Nov. 10. The driver lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree, and the vehicle had to be towed from scene. There were minor injuries, and the driver was charged under the Traffic Act for driving too fast for road conditions.

Police attended to a motor vehicle accident at Government Road and First Avenue North on Nov. 11. There was a two-vehicle accident, due to icy roads; minor injuries occurred, no charges were laid.

Police investigated a theft from a local business; it was found that three young offenders who were employed there were involved. The matter was dealt with by the business owner and the youth’s parents. The youths paid restitution and an apology letter was given to the business.

Police receive a complaint of an erratic driver in the 10 block of Second Avenue North. A male was charged under the Traffic Act with stunting.

Police attended to a motor vehicle accident in the 400 block of Second Avenue South on Nov. 14. A male was driving east on Second Avenue and lost control of his vehicle, striking a parked SUV. Both vehicles had to be towed from scene. Driver was charged under the Traffic Act for driving too fast for road conditions.

Assiniboia RCMP Detachment requested Weyburn Police Service assist in arresting a 29-year-old male on charges of assault with a weapon and uttering threats to the victim. Officers were dispatched to a local bar regarding a fight in progress. The altercation ended before police arrival; investigation revealed the suspect involved in the fight was the 29-year-old male the RCMP was looking for. The male was found intoxicated and was arrested on the Assiniboia RCMP charges.

Police attended to a local business where a person was out front asking for money. Upon police arrival, the individual was gone.

Several accidents have occurred with one of the contributing factors being road conditions.
