Waldo Gaylen Shupe

On Tuesday, January 26, 1999, Waldo Gaylen Shupe, late of Weyburn, passed away at the age of 83 years. Predeceased by his parents Waldo and Iva Shupe; one sister-in-law Lois Shupe; and one brother-in-law Ken Ledbrook. Gaylen is survived by his wife Rae Shupe of Weyburn; two sons: Terry (Judy) Shupe of Calgary, and Robert (Carol) Shupe of Greensboro, NC; five grandchildren: Allison Kelly, Graham Shupe; Kristen, Ryan and Brandon Shupe; three brothers: Blaine (Beth) Shupe of Weyburn; Doug Shupe of Stettler, AB; and Jack (Lila) Shupe of Medicine Hat; two sisters-in-law: Doris Ledbrook of Weyburn; and Bernice (Al) Buchan of Regina; as well as several nieces, nephews and friends. A memorial service was held Friday, January 29, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. from Fletcher Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, with Bill Corkum officiating minister. Interment followed in Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn. All those in attendance were considered to be honorary pallbearers. For friends so wishing, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, in his memory. Arrangements were entrusted to Fletcher Funeral Chapels Ltd., Weyburn.


Divina Bridgland

On Monday, February 1, 1999, Divina Bridgland (nee Hopkins) late of Yellow Grass, and formerly of the Toronto area, passed away at the age of 87 years. Divina was born in Esterhazy in 1911 and grew up in Stenen, achieved her ATCM degree in Regina and taught piano lessons in Stenen and the surrounding towns. She was an accomplished pianist and played for many weddings. She moved to Toronto in 1944 and worked as a civil servant until her retirement. Charles Bridgland and Divina were married in 1977 and they had 11 happy years of traveling and visiting relatives. Divina suffered a stroke in May of 1995 and moved to Beautiful Plains Villa in Yellow Grass in November 1995. Divina was predeceased by her husband Charles Bridgland; her parents Dolly and George Hopkins; sister Dorothy Ortwein; two brothers-in-law: Bill Ortwein and Bob Plummer and a nephew: Terry Plummer. Divina is survived by her step-daughter: Carol Bridgland; step-granddaughter Nicole; sister Bernardine Plummer; nieces: Joyce (Roy) Cross, Marilyn (Warner) Smith, Mary Gail Garwak; nephew George (Colleen) Ortwein; five great nieces; nine great nephews; one great great niece; as well as cousins and many friends in the Toronto area. A graveside service was held Friday, February 5, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. in Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn, with Marilyn Anderson Corkum officiating minister. All in attendance were considered to be honorary pallbearers. For friends so wishing, donations may be made to the Grace United Church, Weyburn, in her memory. Arrangements were entrusted to Fletcher Funeral Chapels Ltd., Weyburn.


Arthur Clint Christian

On January 26, 1999, Arthur Clint Christian, late of Weyburn, passed away at the age of 73 years. Predeceased by his parents, Clinton and Eleanor Christian; his wife Helen; one sister Ruby Christian; and one brother-in-law Gerhard Johnson. He leaves to mourn three sisters: Belva Johnson of Weyburn; Eleanor (Harvey) Larson of Weyburn; and Hazel (Emmanuel) Friess of Estevan; ten nieces and nephews; numerous great nieces and nephews; great great nieces and nephews; as well as many relatives and friends. Arthur was born March 9, 1925. He took his schooling at Beaubier, SK. Later working on the railroad then on road construction as well as helping on the farm until at which time he took up farming full time in the Beaubier district. In 1980 Arthur retired from farming due to ill health and moved into Weyburn. Funeral service was held Friday, January 29 at 2:00 p.m. from Knox Presbyterian Church, Weyburn with Rev. John Ferrier officiating. Interment followed in Green Acres Memorial Gardens, Weyburn. Vern Gammack, Wayne Olson, Quint Patrick and Tom Moore, members of the Weyburn BPO Elks formed an honor guard. The active pallbearers were: Laine Larson, Allen Larson, Bryan Freiss, Darrell Freiss, Ronald Lein, and Robert Sweeney. For friends so wishing, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetic Association, or to a charity of the donor's choice, in his memory. Arrangements were in care of Hastings-Dionne Funeral Home Inc., Weyburn.


Omer Holles Roysum

Omer Holles Roysum passed away January 30, 1999 after a short illness. Omer was born on the farm September 4, 1931. He was predeceased by his parents, Oscar and Almyrah Roysum. He leaves to mourn his wife of 45 years, Lorraine; his two daughters, Debbie (Kitch) Milford of Carstairs, AB; and Gwen (Brent) Kaufmann of Regina; and his two sons, Garnet (Elaine) Roysum of Beaubier, SK; and Gaylord (Kelly) Roysum of Weyburn; seven grandsons and three granddaughters; his sisters: Fern Clausen of Beaubier, Delores (Duane) Larsen, Peggy (Herman) Johnson, Vivian (Robert) Johnson and Beverly (Sam) Locken, all of Weyburn; his father and mother-in-law, Merthen and Hattie Toso of Radville; as well as nieces, nephews and friends. Omer farmed on the family homestead with his dad. He also drove school bus for seven years, when his children first started school. Omer enjoyed mechanical work and passed on his passion to his sons and grandsons. He enjoyed his family very much and called his granddaughters his 'honey-buns'. He was an entertaining story teller, especially about days gone by. He had a unique way of expressing himself. In later years he enjoyed playing rummy with family and friends. Funeral service was held Tuesday, February 2 at 2:00 p.m. from Lake Alma Lutheran Church, with Pastor Martin Olson officiating. Interment followed in Overland Cemetery, Lake Alma. Pallbearers were his grandsons: Chad Milford, Riley Milford, Tanner Kaufmann, Matt Kaufmann, Cory Roysum and Shane Roysum. Donations in his memory may be made to the Lake Alma Lutheran Church or the Canadian Cancer Society, in his memory. Arrangements were in care of Hastings-Dionne Funeral Home Inc., Weyburn.
