OBITUARIES

Rozina "Rose" Dorwart

On Monday, February 22, 1999, Rozina "Rose" Dorwart, late of Weyburn passed away at the age of 86 years. Rose was born on December 23, 1912 in a German speaking community in Romania. She was the second child of Cristof and Rebecca Scholp. Their community was shattered by W.W. I and in 1929 the family emigrated to a new life in the Bateman area of Sask. On October 18, 1934 Rose married August Dorwart and in 1942 they moved to the South Weyburn district to begin farming on their own. Rose did everything around the farm from taking care of livestock, working out in the field with August to finding time for her vegetable garden and flowers. But life was not all work, there were the summer holidays with her family or just dancing and listening to music with family and friends. In 1974 health considerations led to leaving the farm to move into Weyburn and final retirement in 1978. The whole family was involved in building their new house on 13th Street. Rose and August started going south for the winter, getting involved in bowling, cards and coffeeing with friends and neighbors. Life was filled with church, singing in the choir, baking, handicrafts and helping with the grandchildren. August passed away in 1989 and in 1990 Rose moved to Rhineland Towers. On January 19 she was hospitalized and passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family. She will be remembered for her soft heart, and her special relationship with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She showed her love in many ways whether it was a hug, a pair of hand knit slippers, or some of her wonderful German food. Rose was predeceased by her parents, Christopher and Rebecca Scholp; her husband, August Dorwart; three sisters, one brother; and one great granddaughter, Krista Whiteside. Rose is survived by three daughters: Florence (Ron) Benning of Weyburn; Evelyn (Lawrence) Forand of Calgary; and Rosalie (Dorlyn) Killian of Weyburn; 15 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; one brother, Martin (Evelyn) Scholp of Weyburn; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
