Opal Kittelson

On Saturday, March 20, 1999, Opal Kittelson, late of Weyburn, passed away at the age of 82 years. Predeceased by her parents Henry and Tressa Pelzl; her first husband, Edwin Kressin, one brother Daniel Pelzl; and one son, Darrel Kressin. Opal leaves to mourn, her husband Thomas Kittelson of Weyburn; one daughter Shirley (Wayne) Springer of Henning, MN; one son, Dennis (Leone) Kressin of Fountain Valley, CA; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Mary Kressin of Larimore, N.D., one step-daughter, Shirley Culbertson of Weyburn; four step-sons: Ron (Yvonne) Kittelson of Weyburn; Larry (Dorothy) Kittelson of Saskatoon; Dennis (Irma) Kittelson of Saskatoon; and Marv (Mary) Kittelson of Weyburn; numerous step grandchildren and great grandchildren. Opal was born on August 6, 1916 in Barney, North Dakota and spent most of her life farming in the area. She and her first husband, Ed Kressin raised their family on the farm. Opal was active in the Ladies Aid at church and enjoyed her abundant garden. When Edwin retired from farming in 1976 they moved to Mooreton, ND where they lived until Edwin's death in 1978. In 1982 she came to Canada after meeting Tom, and they were married in St. Luke's Lutheran church in Midale, in 1983. Tom retired from his Watkins business when Opal had her first stroke in 1987, and cared for her through two more strokes until a fourth stroke forced her into the nursing home, where she resided these past four years. Opal and Tom loved to travel together, visiting Hawaii, Alaska, Europe, Scandanavia, and many places in the US, Mexico and Canada. Funeral service was held Wednesday, March 24 at 11:00 a.m. from Zion Lutheran church, Weyburn with Pastor Ron Bestvater officiating. All those in attendance were considered to be honorary pallbearers. A second funeral service was held Friday, March 26 at 10:30 a.m. from Peace Lutheran Church, Barney, ND with Rev. Tim Schiller officiating. Interment followed in Peace Lutheran Cemetery, Barne. Arrangements were in care of Hastings-Dionne Funeral Home Inc., Weyburn, and Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, ND.


Isabella Stals (Tharp) nee Haswell

Nov. 6, 1920-March 25, 1999

On March 25, 1999, Mrs. Isabella Stals passed away at the age of 78 years. Isabella is survived by her brother, Robert Haswell (Margaret); her son, David (Dianne) Tharp of Rainbow Lake; their daughter, Corinne (Allan), and their son Matthew; her daughter, Mary Tharp of Edmonton, and her son, James Tharp. Isabella was predeceased by her sister Mary MacArthur. Memorial service will be held at St. Timothy's Anglican Church, 8420-145 Street, Edmonton, Wednesday, March 31, at 3:00 p.m. Reverend Paul Robinson will officiate. In lieu of floral tributes, donations in memory of Isabella may be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation or Alzheimer Society of Edmonton. Arrangements in care of Westlawn Funeral Chapel.
