Vivian May Vipond

Vivian May Vipond of Weyburn passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999. She was born May 12, 1912 to Susannah and Joseph Vipond of Griffin. She received her schooling at Griffin Consolidated School and her teacher training in Regina. She taught in schools in Avonhurst, Rouleau and Lampman before returning home to the farm, because of her mother's failing health. After the death of her parents, Vivian moved to Weyburn and dedicated her life to making a home for her handicapped sister, Opal and pursuing their faith and Witnessing. Vivian worked as a receptionist at the Saskatchewan Hospital, secretary and bookkeeper for Weyburn Autobody and substitute teacher, but soon found that her time would be full with caring for Opal. Vivian had a good sense of humour, was pleasant to be around and had an independent spirit. She was compassionate, loving and kind. She was known for her thoughtful gifts and visits to the sick and sat with numerous friends all night at their death beds. She lovingly and patiently cared for sister Opal for 32 years. She loved children and enjoyed babysitting for friends and family and her closet was full of toys, books and games. She never missed an opportunity to train 3-4 month old babies to drink from a straw - to the astonishment of all who saw them. Vivian spent many hours enjoying her flowers and garden, especially her super tomatoes, carrots, purple beans and purple potatoes. She kept up with the times and was well informed on a wide range of topics. Other interests included poetry, drawing, painting and fancy work. Vivian had travelled quite extensively to Jehovah Witness conventions and on family vacations in the USA and Canada. She enjoyed a trip to Israel and two trips to Hawaii, and was in the process of arranging for return to Hawaii in the new year. Vivian was predeceased by her parents, infant brother Milton, sisters: Opal Vipond and Viola Rommann; brothers-in-law: Erling Olson, Fern Rommann and Jim Charlton and nephews: Murry Charlton and Dale Rommann. She leaves to mourn her sisters: Mildred Olson and Mabel Charlton; and brother, Gilbert (Eleanor) Vipond, all of Weyburn; nieces and nephews: Neva (Clayton) Squire, Elaine Pederson, Louise Rumball, Joanne (Bruce) Schurko, Bonnie (David) Little, Janice Charlton, Jack (Carol) Charlton; 14 grand nieces and nephews and one great grand nephew. A memorial service was held on Wednesday, Oct. 13 from the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Weyburn, with Arnold Kozak officiating. Interment followed in Griffin Cemetery, Griffin. The active pallbearers were: Wilf Petit, Selmer Dynna, Vance Pederson, Larry Bunse, Jim Rebrinsky and Lloyd Montgomery. When I'm Gone
When I come to the end of my journey
And I travel my last weary mile,
Just forget if you can, that I ever frowned
And remember only the smile.
Forget unkind words I have spoken;
Remember the good I have done.
Forget that I ever had heartache
And remember we have had our fun.
Forget that I've stumbled and blundered
And sometimes fell by the way.
Remember I have fought some hard battles
And won, ere the close of the day.
Then forget to grieve for my going,
I would not have you sad for a day,
But in summer just gather some flowers
And remember the place where I lay.
And come in the shade of evening
When the sun paints the sky in the west.
Stand for a few moments beside me
And remember only my best.
-Fondly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew him.
