was born on the family farm at Kisbey on September 28, 1917.
In his early years he attended a rural school at Kisbey. He later
continued his schooling for an additional three years at Briercrest
Bible School in Caronport, SK and graduated from there. During
the Second World War, Leslie served his country as a mechanic
in overseas service in Holland, Italy and France. Following the
war, he farmed in the Kisbey area. On June 30, 1951, he married
Jean Molberg. After a short time in Kisbey, they settled into
farming in the Midale area where they farmed for several years.
While in Midale, Leslie was very active in the Midale Baptist
Church where he served as a faithful deacon for many years, and
as a Gideon in the Gideon's Society. He also served his community
well as a board member of the Low Rental Housing Authority in
Midale. In the 1980s, Leslie and Jean began a pattern of farming
in Midale in the summers but wintering in Killarney. Following
their retirement from farming in the early 1990s, Leslie and
Jean made Killarney their permanent residence. While in Killarney,
Leslie continued his active involvement in the church. He has
served as a Deacon, has taught Sunday school, has preached, has
been involved in various Bible studies and has been faithful
as a prayer warrior. He was also very faithful in doing what
he could to help the church building project and was happy with
each step of progress that was made. Up to the time of his death,
he, along with his wife have hosted a weekly Bible study in their
home. He was also very regular in his attendance and support
of a prayer group which meets to pray every Saturday morning
at the church. He usually brought a Bible passage to share with
the group. On the morning of his passing, he had his alarm set
so he could get up for this time of prayer at the church but
God called him home shortly before his 7:00 prayer time. In his
spare time, Leslie enjoyed helping people at odd jobs, fixing
small machines, and working at different projects around his
home and community. He also loved to travel and to read and could
often be found with a book in his hand. Through his reading and
his experiences, he became well versed in many different areas.
He especially liked to read his Bible and made a commitment to
read through it each year, which he did for most years of his
married life. Leslie loved people and always cherished his time
with those he knew and met. Many people can attest to the genuine
interest he showed in people, to his hearty handshake and his
desire to know how things were really going. Leslie will always
be remembered as a friend and encourager to all who knew him
and will be sadly missed by those whose lives he touched. Killarney
& Boissevain Funeral Homes Ltd. were in care of arrangements.
