Lillian Viola Rodine

Born Lillian Viola Hodnerud in Prince George, BC on January 2, 1919 to immigrant parents of Norwegine and Swedish ancestry. Some of ther early days were spent in the Fox Valley/Linacre area in Saskatchewan (north of Gull Lake) moving to the Worcester/Rainton area (north of Weyburn) with her mother at the age of 5 or 6. Lillian was raised by her aunts and uncles (the Johnsons) following the death of her mother when Lillian was nine. In the early 30's Mom moved with the Johnsons to a farm in the Hume area and that became "home." Most of Mom's public schooling was in the Hume area. After completing high school, Mom ventured to Winnipeg to seek employment and eventually attend Winnipeg Bible College. On November 1, 1942 mother married John Rodine (also from the Hume area). Dad's occupation as a Baptist Minister was both supported and enhanced by our mother. Over the course of 49 years together they served in eight churces in Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Western Ontario and BC. Together they raised four children and had the privilege of knowing all eight of their grandchildren. Both Mother and Dad enjoyed traveling and had the privilege of spending time in England, Europe and Sweden (visiting her mother's home place). Mother and Dad retired in Clearbrook, BC where they lived for 12 years. Mom moved to Calgary in 1993, after Dad passed away. A mother and grandmother who loved her children, their spouses and her grandchildren - often recalling humorous incidents or special achievements. She enjoyed playing board games with us all, Scrabble being the family favourite. At an early age she taught us about God and His love for us. She set an example for us without using words in so many ways. Mom encouraged us in our endeavours and was proud of our accomplishments. Lillian is survived by four children, their spouses and eight grandchildren: Larry and Carol Rodine, Laurie and Wayne Masing, Leanne Rodine; Dr. Faye and Jim Day; Lynn and Phil Crump, Matthew, Andrea and Garth, Al and Leah Ann Rodine, Joshua, Benjamin, Luke; as well as numerous sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews on the Rodine side of the family. Mother went to be with the Lord on January 12, 2000. Poverb 31-12 "You were an excellent wife (and mother), you did us good all the days of your life." We thank God for giving to us this lady as our Mother. A memorial service was held in Calgary with interment at Green Acres Memorial Cemetery, Weyburn.
