Stella Clara Golinski

Stella Clara Golinski (nee Malinowski) was born August 23, 1910 in Bodgoszez, Poland and passed away peacefully on March 23, 2000 at the Weyburn General Hospital at the age of 89 years. She was predeceased by her parents, Anton and Antonia; husband, Frank Golinski on March 23, 1975; brother, George; three sisters: Wanda, Mary and Jadwiga. Stella leaves to mourn and cherish her memory many friends in the Weyburn and Fillmore area; friends for over 55 years from South Australia and Berlin West Germany, Andrew and Bronion Wende and Helena Wenda who assisted Stella to get her papers in order to immigrate to Canada on November 1, 1948. Stella went to work in many hospitals and private homes at the age of 14. She came to Canada with 2000 people by boat to Montreal and then to Regina by train. She was greeted by Polish people from St. Anthony's Parish in Regina. Monsignor Goski was the parish priest at the time and arranged for Stella to get employment on a farm near Fillmore. In October 1949 Stella married Frank Golinski of Fillmore. They lived and farmed on rented land until moving to Weyburn in 1964. Stella was proud to be a member of St. Mary's Altar Society in Fillmore and Weyburn. She was also a dedicated member of St. Vincent de Paul Church. Celebration of Stella's life was held on Monday, March 27, at St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church in Weyburn at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Father F. Hengen officiating. Active pallbearers were: Peter Szuta, Wayne Olson, Norbert Schultz, Ed Mazur, Andy Dumba and Howard Schmidt. Interment followed in Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to a charity of choice. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Fletcher Funeral Chapels Ltd., Weyburn, Sask


Myrtle Beatrice Root

On Thursday, March 23, 2000, Myrtle Beatrice Root, late of Weyburn, passed away at the age of 83 years. Predeceased by her mother and father, Ralph and Margaret Graville; her husband, Joe Root; two sisters: Olive Johnston and Loretta Buchanan; two brothers-in-law: Reginold Eddy and Elgin Buchanan; and a niece, Irene Johnston. Myrtle is survived by her sister, Hazel Eddy of Tribune; brother-in-law, Ken Johnston of Weyburn; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. Myrtle Beatrice Root was born October 12, 1916 in the Goodwater area, the third daughter of Ralph and Margaret Graville. She received her education at Monson School. She was raised in the Goodwater area and did domestic work in various homes. She was married later in life to Joe Root. Myrtle loved to play ball, dance, read and play card games. She really enjoyed the little people even right to the end. She resided in Midale, then later moved to Weyburn where she lived in Bison Manor until moving to Weyburn Special Care Home where she passed away peacefully on March 23, 2000. In accordance with Myrtle's wishes, there will be no funeral service. For friends so wishing, donations may be made in her memory to the Salvation Army. Frederick "Fred" William Becker

On Friday, March 31, 2000, Frederick "Fred" William Becker, late of Yellow Grass, passed away in hospital at the age of 81 years. Predeceased by his wife Doreen in 1982, two brothers and two sisters, Fred is survived by his son Gerald (Kim); grandsons Derek and Drew; daughter Gail and special friend Eileen Lansdell. Funeral service was held on Monday, April 3 at 2:00 p.m. in the Peace Lutheran Church, Yellow Grass, with Pastor Ron Bestvater officiating. Private family interment followed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. Arrangements were entrusted to the Helmsing Funeral Chapel, Regina and Yellow Grass


Thelma Caroline Kaufman

On Saturday, March 25, 2000, Thelma Caroline Kaufman (nee Hesjedal), late of Bengough, passed away at the Weyburn General Hospital, at the age of 74 years. Predeceased by her husband, Alvin (Sonny) Kaufman; infant son; her parents, Andrew and Amanda Hesjedal; her brother Stan, and her twin sister Stella. Thelma is survived by her daughter, Beverley (Gil) Marsh of Plentywood, Montana; her sons: Danny (Kathy) Kaufman of Bengough, and Rocky (Alana) Kaufman of Lemberg; her grandchildren: Dakota, Krista, Katelyn and Kenneth; her brothers: Alf (Joyce Bathgate) Hesjedal of Bengough, and Martin (Audrey) Hesjedal of Bengough; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral service was held Tuesday, March 28 at 2:00 p.m. from Knox United Church, Bengough, with Rev. Christa Eidsness officiating. Interment followed in Bengough Cemetery. All her friends and neighbours were considered to be honorary pallbearers. The active pallbearers were: Gary Filion, Archie Shaver, Cliff Gravelle, Roy Toner, Joe Shaw and Norman Shaver. For friends so wishing, donations may be made to the Knox United Church, Bengough, or to a charity of the donor's choice, in her memory. Johanna (Jo) McMahon

Johanna (Jo) McMahon, late of Swift Current, passed away on Monday, March 27, 2000 at the age of 97 years. Johanna was born November 12, 1902 at Olin, Iowa U.S.A. Predeceased by her parents, John and Eliene Von Sprecken; her husband Thomas; one son Arnold; six brothers: Reimer Von Sprecken, Carl Sprecken, Cal Von Sprecken, Ervin Von Sprecken, John Von Sprecken and Ken Sprecken; two sisters: Margaret Crawford and Anina McWhinnie. Johanna is survived by three sons: James Elwin of Regina, Milton (Ione) of Winnipeg and Wayne (Bernice) of Regina; one sister Hertha Klappstein of Sherwood Park, AB; one brother Hugo Sprecken of Griffin; two sisters-in-law: Florence Sprecken of Weyburn; and Audrey Von Sprecken of Fillmore; eight grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Johanna moved to Innes, SK with her family in 1912. She married Thomas McMahon in 1929 and resided in various towns in southern Sask. until moving to Swift Current in 1952. The funeral service was held in St. Stephen's Anglican Church, Swift Current, Saturday, April 1, at 2:00 p.m. Friends so wishing may make donations to Swift Current Care Centre, 700 Aberdeen St. East, Swift Current, Sask. Joseph Patrick Sweeney

Joseph Patrick Sweeney passed away quietly in his home in Kelowna, BC on March 24, 2000 at the age of 89. He is survived by his loving wife Toots (Olivia) and his eldest daughter Colleen (Harry) Clegg. He was predeceased by his daughter Doreen (Clive) Paul in 1989. He leaves to mourn his loss, grandchildren: Bill, Bob, Dan and Lori Erb; Kevin, Gordon and Shannon (Edwards) Paul; great grandchildren: Jeff, Jamie, Jason, Brent, Dallas, Jena, BJ and Audrey Erb; Paul and Corbin Edwards, and Maggie Paul and great great grandchildren Kyle and Jerrod Erb. A memorial service was held March 29. Joe was born in Arcola and was the eldest of three children. At an early age he moved to Weyburn where he went to school and later worked on the CPR. In 1938 he graduated as a psychiatric nurse from the Saskatchewan Hospital and in 1939 he joined the SSR and then the RCCS. Joe served overseas in World War II from 1939 to 1945. After the war he returned to work at the Saskatchewan Hospital and Saskatchewan Training School in Weyburn and Moose Jaw for 39 years. During this time Joe also completed certificates in plumbing and gas fitting. Joe and Toots retired to Kelowna, BC in 1967 where he was appointed to chair the board of referees of the Unemployment Commission for three years for Kelowna and surrounding area. Joe enjoyed his retirement years in Kelowna with his wife Toots and will be missed by all his family, friends and relatives.
