John William Molberg
On Monday, April 17, 2000, John William Molberg passed away peacefully at the Hill Top Manor in Weyburn. He was 85 years old. He was predeceased by his parents Samuel and Anna Molberg; brothers Reuben, Edward and George; sisters Clara Nordby, Esther Christensen, Allie Jacobson, and wife Lillian. He leaves to mourn one brother Philip (Myrtle) Molberg; sisters Edith Larson, Christina Storey, Sarah (Allan) McGillivray, and Jean Brammall, and sons John Lyle (Margaret) Molberg, Leonard (Shirley) Molberg; grandchildren Wendy (Mike) Bourassa, Darcie (Tim) Hammond, Dave Molberg, John Leonard Molberg and Mitzy-Lynne Marie Molberg. Also three great grandchildren Casey Bourassa, and Kelsey and Liam Hammond, plus many loving nieces and nephews. The funeral was held on Saturday, April 22, 2000 at the Midale Baptist Church with Rev. Dwayne Harms officiating. Pallbearers were Dave Molberg, John Leonard Molberg, Don Erickson, Garth Holman, Morley Jacobs and Ken Larson. Interment followed at the Westphalia Cemetery. John William Molberg was born at the Hillside View Farm just northeast of Midale on July 20, 1914. He joined a family of eight brothers and sisters, which eventually grew to 12 siblings. Johnnie attended school in Midale and graduated Grade 12 in 1932. During his school days, he was noted for his athletic ability. It was said that Johnnie could hop a fence with a sack of wheat on his shoulder. During, and after school was through, he sought, wooed and won the only girl for him, Lillian Alva Flury, and the two were married on October 29, 1938. At this time, Johnnie took over the farm and began a family. John Lyle was born on Halloween the following year and Leonard Samuel on January 20, 1945. Sadly for this young family, his wife Lillian passed away suddenly in 1946 at the age of 32, leaving Johnnie with a farm and two young children. He moved to town and for the next 53 years lived across the street from the Baptist Church. This church played an important part of his life, as did his faith in God. He served in the church in various positions, and for 50 years he was the Sunday School treasurer. During this time, he was an excellent singer and he and his brother George became well known for their vocal duets. Johnnie enjoyed farming, carpentry, and hunting - particularly pheasant hunting in the earlier years. He was a kind and caring person and seemed happiest when he was able to help someone out. In the fall of 1999, when he was no longer able to live on his own, Johnnie moved into Weyburn to live at the Hill Top Manor, where he passed away from cancer and old age. As an old farmer was overheard to say, "When you're 85, you can't get parts." Johnnie had a full life and we all feel richer for having known him. The family would like to say a sincere thank you to Heather, Jim, and the staff at the Hill Top Manor for their kindness and excellent care. For friends so wishing, donations to the Baptist Church in Midale in Johnnie's memory would be appreciated. Funeral ar-rangements were in care of Hastings-Dionne Funeral Home, Weyburn.
