Beatrice will be fondly remembered by her sister, Gertrude Cramer of North Carolina, USA; sons Murray and Elwood (Jeane) of Swift Current; daughters Eileen (Leroy) Dammann of Stoughton and Beverly (Earl) Brown of Winnipeg; eight grandchildren Trevor (Marie) Dammann, Lois (Cameron) Coffey, Nancy (Simon), Stuart (Connie), Dean (Cathy) and Kevin (Debbie) Brown, Kevin (Sandra) and Bob (Bev) Springer; 13 great grandchildren Mathew, April, and Myles Dammann, Carman, Brenna and Dylan Coffey, Kyle Brown, Claire Coppens, Jess, Braden and Zachary Springer, Thomas and Katherine Springer. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Onetta Beatice Foss was born in New Carlisle, Quebec on October 3, 1901. Her life in Western Canada began when Beatrice moved to Pennant, SK with her mother and ten siblings. They were joining their father who had set out to start a new life for his family in farming. Two weeks after their arrival, two of the children contracted typhoid fever, and Beatrice helped to shoulder the responsibility for their care. Beatrice married Edwin G. Foss on November 20, 1933 in Regina. They farmed in the Talmage area until 1947 when, due to Edwin's poor health, they rented the farm and moved to Weyburn. In 1957 they moved back to the farm where their oldest son Murray took over the work duties. Beatrice and Edwin traveled extensively, finally choosing Weslaco, Texas as their winter home since 1964. Beatrice thoroughly enjoyed each season there, participating in church activities, crafts, clubs, bingo, dining out, walking and meeting new friends. She looked forward to all of her winter jaunts including the last six, which were spent living with her daughter Beverly and husband Earl. During the summer months, Beatrice returned to Saskatchewan where much of her time was spent on the farm with Murray. Beatrice was known as "the lady with the hat." She was an avid reader who was interested in everything, and always eager to increase her knowledge. Her hobbies included millinery, knitting, crocheting, quilting, learning new crafts and sewing. One or more of these activities were often done while Beatrice was watching or listening to a vintage comedy, sports, musical or spiritual program. Her hands and mind were never idle. Beyond these pursuits, Beatrice was always thinking of others and contributing her help to worthwhile causes. She was a proud member of the Order of the Eastern Star for many years. Beatrice considered Fillmore United Church and Grace United Church in Weyburn to be her spiritual homes, and enjoyed participating in both their memberships. She found special joy in her grandchildren and great grandchildren, reveling in their endeavors and various accomplishments with pride. A memorial service was held Saturday, June 3 at Fillmore United Church with Rev. Heather Lea officiating. The eulogy was given by Mona Cross. Organist Elaine Morris and vocalist Don Wiberg provided the music. Beatrice's family wished to recognize her friends by designating all of them as honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Beatrice's memory to the Fillmore Health Centre Auxiliary or a charity of the donor's choice. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
