Beryl Lillian McConachie, 89, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. A lady with a smile as brilliant as a prairie sunrise and a heart as huge as the northern skies. A long time resident of Weyburn, where she lived more than half her life. Born in Weyburn on the family homestead, northwest of the city, Beryl attended West Weyburn, McTaggart and Weyburn schools before graduating as a teacher from Regina's Normal School. In 1933, her mother Fanny passed away and she moved back to the farm to help her father Robert raise Arnold, Max, Doug and Dot. It was there she met her future husband William Hodder (Bill) and married in 1939. Son Doug was born in 1945 and daughter Marnie Lynn in 1949 and Beryl raised the family along with numerous stray cats and dogs and budgies, opened her house and her heart to families and friends as they moved from Weyburn to Edmonton, then back to Weyburn as her husband, a banker, was transferred around the prairies. The family lived in Pangman in the early 1950's, Edmonton from 1954-1964, and then retired to Weyburn where Hodder partnered with Doug Pulfer in Westburn Livestock. Later years took them to Victoria but again they returned to Weyburn and wintered in Arizona or Victoria. This past winter they moved to Langley, BC to be closer to their daughter's family. Predeceased by brothers, Arnold and Max and an infant brother Donald, Beryl is survived by her husband of 61 years, Hodder; daughter Marnie Lynn Selinger (Gregg) and their children Joel, Jeremy (Angela) and daughter, Taylin, Darcy, Shanna, Erin and Kristy Lee (formerly of Dilke); son, Doug of Saskatoon (his 'Little Friend' Jude) and his children Megan (Cory Ernst) and Melissa, of Saskatoon, and Shane of Vancouver and their mother, Christel Schoener-mann; brother Doug (Dot) of Weyburn; sister Dorothy (Jack Webb) of Saskatoon; sister-in-law, Nora Carey of Regina; sister-in-law, Vernie Pulfer of Weyburn; along with very special family friends, Mabel and Dr. Wally Nicholson also of Weyburn; and many extra special nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held Saturday at Fraser Hills Funeral Chapel in Surrey, BC. Arrangements are being made for a memorial service to also be held in Weyburn at an as yet to be determined date with family also sharing a celebration of Beryl's life later on the family homestead.
