Dolores Kathryn Sampson

On September 7, 2000, Dolores Kathryn Sampson, late of Weyburn, formerly of Oungre, passed away peacefully at the age of 89 years. Predeceased by her parents, Harry and Mary McAlpine; her husband, Albert in 1993; her daughter, Elaine in 1955; and a grandson, Terry Larsen in 1966; also one sister, Genevieve Sampson; two brothers: Allen McAlpine and Leo McAlpine; two brothers-in-law: Harry Severson and Elmer Sampson. Dolores leaves to mourn her daughter, Pat (LeRoy) Larsen of Oungre and children: Randy, Blaine (Debby) and great granddaughter Sydnie; Marvin (Pat) Sampson of Oungre and children: Sheri and Shawn; Fran (Brian) Uhrich of Calgary and children: Devin and Tracy. Her sister, Marguerite Severson of Kamloops, BC; and many nieces and nephews. Dolores was born June 11, 1911 in Bowbells, North Dakota. She grew up on the farm near Oungre. She attended school at Lyndale and Bromhead. She taught public school in several districts. She married Albert Sampson on September 25, 1937. They farmed and raised their family in Oungre. Dolores was very involved in Greenville Homemakers and many church and community functions. She substitute taught in Lyndale School for many years. In 1965 she started teaching full-time at Lyndale, grades one to three, until she retired in 1974. She always treasured those special years. In 1974 Dolores and Albert moved to Weyburn. She became involved in the ELW at Zion Lutheran Church. In 1987, Albert had a stroke and moved to Souris Valley Extended Care Centre. Dolores then moved to an apartment where she remained until 1996. Her health began to fail so she moved to the Weyburn Special Care Home. She was very happy and content there with the great care and love she received from all the staff. Funeral service was held Saturday, September 9 at 2:00 p.m. from Zion Lutheran Church, Weyburn, with Pastor Ron Bestvater officiating. Interment followed in Bromhead Cemetery. The pallbearers were: Lyle Sampson, Ken Sampson, Eugene Severson, Randy Larsen, Brian Uhrich and Devin Uhrich. For friends so wishing, donations may be made in her memory to a charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements were entrusted to Fletcher Funeral Chapels Ltd., Weyburn.


Clarence James Earl

On September 5, 2000, Clarence James Earl passed away at the Regina General Hospital. Clarence was born on September 26, 1912, the youngest son of Harry and Alice Earl. He was raised on the family farm at Osage, along with his one brother and two sisters. Clarence married Marjorie Buck of Dilke in 1941. They returned to the family farm at Osage, where Clarence enjoyed a career of farming and trapping until ill health forced his retirement to Weyburn in 1981. During his retirement, Clarence spent many happy hours constructing meticulously detailed wooden replicas of farm machinery, animals and some buildings which has been of particular significance in his lifetime. Reading and crossword puzzles were other favorite pastimes. Clarence especially enjoyed the frequent visits from his many friends and relatives. Clarence was predeceased by his mother and father, Alice and Harry Earl; daughter, Doreen; brother, Douglas; and brother-in-law, Frank Glover. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Marjorie; daughters: Dolores (Earl) Dupuis and Dianne (Ron) Sander; grandchildren: Debbie, Leslie, Patti and Joanne; four great grandchildren; sisters: Hazel Glover and Marjorie (Cliff) Shirley; and sister-in-law, Daisy Earl; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. A private family service for Clarence will be held at a later date. For friends so wishing, donations may be made in his memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan or the Canadian Cancer Society. Arrangements were in care of Hastings-Dionne Funeral Home Inc., Weyburn.


Alice Ione Pfeiffer

On Wednesday, September 13, 2000, Alice Ione Pfeiffer, late of Weyburn, passed away at Souris Valley Extended Care Centre, at the age of 93 years. Alice was born March 31, 1907 at Flaxton, North Dakota, USA. Predeceased by her parents; her husband, Paul, in 1977; sisters and brothers: Inez Ross, Hazel Axten, Marjorie Claffey, Wilfred Gee, Darrel Gee, Russel Gee, Lynn Gee, Charlie Gee and Dale Gee. Alice is survived by her daughter, Anna Mae (Garry) Stainbrook of Fort Qu'Appelle; one granddaughter, Tera Stainbrook, of Regina; two grandsons: Corey Stainbrook (fiancee Cindy Hawes) of Regina, and David Stainbrook of Fort Qu'Appelle; three sisters-in-law: Eileen Gee of Bengough, Agnes Gee of Bengough, and Elsie Gee of Regina; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral service was held Saturday, September 16 at 1:30 p.m. from St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church, Bengough, with Father Brian Meredith Celebrant. Pallbearers were: Bob Gee, Doug Gee, Brian Gee, Dwight Gee, Herb Axten and Allan Mossing. Interment followed in Bengough Cemetery, Bengough. Donations may be made in memory of Alice to St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church. Arrangements were in care of Hastings-Dionne Funeral Home Inc., Weyburn.


J. Russell McKay

On Saturday, September 2, 2000, J. Russell McKay, late of Weyburn, passed away at the Regina General Hospital, at the age of 69 years. Russell was born March 20, 1931 at Govan, SK. Predeceased by his father, Norman McKay; mother and step-father, Elsie (Denzil) Lindskog; and brothers, Don and Frank. Russell is survived by his loving wife, Marjory, of Weyburn; son, Howard (Helena) and granddaughter, Emma, of Saskatoon; daughter, Lynn (Kevin) Quist and grandson, Wil, of Weyburn; sister-in-law, Rosemary McKay and niece, Mari McKay, both of Aberdeen, Scotland; and nephew, Robert (Julia) McKay of Bryant, Texas. A memorial service was held Friday, September 8 at 2:00 p.m. from Zion Lutheran Church, Weyburn, with Bill Corkum and Marilyn Anderson Corkum officiating ministers. A Masonic service was held by members of the Masons. Cremation with interment at Govan Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, friends so wishing may make donations in his memory to the Wa Wa Shrine Patient Transportation Fund, c/o 2065 Hamilton Street, Regina, SK, S4P 2E1, or to a charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements were entrusted to Fletcher Funeral Chapels Ltd., Weyburn.


Garnet Fettes

On Tuesday, September 12, 2000, Garnet Fettes, late of Gladmar, passed away at the Radville Marian Health Centre, at the age of 43 years. Garnet was born July 1, 1957 at Radville. Predeceased by his grandparents, Garnet is survived by his mother and father: Carmen and Allan Fettes of Gladmar; three brothers: Dwayne (Karen) Fettes of Gladmar; Lyle Fettes of Brandon, MB; and Arvon (Marie) Fettes of Radville; one sister, Cynthia, of Gladmar; nieces and nephews: Trina (Perry) Verhelst and their daughters, Olivia and Julia; Tyler (Lori) Fettes and their children, Cody, Cassidy and Carter; Scott Fettes; Jennifer (Barry) Van Damme; Keith Fettes and Michelle Fettes; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. A memorial service was held Friday, September 15 at 2:00 p.m. from Gladmar Lutheran Church, Gladmar, with Pastor Martin Olson officiating. Interment followed in Gladmar Cemetery, Gladmar. Donations may be made in Garnet's memory to the Radville Marian Health Centre Palliative Care Fund or to Gladmar Lutheran Church. Arrangements were in care of Hastings-Dionne Funeral Home Inc., Weyburn and Radville.


Patrick Nick Fuhro

On Thursday, September 7, 2000, Patrick Nick Fuhro, late of Radville, passed away at Radville Marian Health Centre, at the age of 56 years. Rick was predeceased by his parents, Martin and Katherine Fuhro; father-in-law, William Ulrich; one sister-in-law, Veronica Fuhro and brother-in-law, Harold Ulrich. Rick is survived by his loving wife, Loretta Fuhro of Radville; one son, Dwight Fuhro (Janalee Frohlich and her son Josh) of Regina; one daughter, Joanne (Tyler) Carles of Grenfell; and their children, Jessica and Michaela; one sister, Eileen (Palmer) Solie of Weyburn; two brothers: Elmer Fuhro of Regina and Ed (Margaret) Fuhro of Winnipeg, MB; mother-in-law, Ella Ulrich of Regina; four sisters-in-law: Helene Oswald of Greenbelt, Maryland; Carol (Philip) Ermel of Cupar; Sylvia (Harvey) Halbert of Regina; and Carol Ulrich of Regina; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Rick was born March 17, 1944 at Radville. He attended school in Lake Alma. On October 10, 1964, her married Loretta Ulrich in Weyburn, and together they raised their two children, Dwight and Joanne. Rick worked as the Imperial Oil Agent in Weyburn, Carlyle and Radville. In 1976 he started Southern Seed and Supply Ltd., along with Roy Levee. In 1996 Rick sold the business and continued farming. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved hockey and golf and enjoyed spending time at his cabin at Mainprize Park. He also enjoyed traveling and downhill skiing. Rick was very involved in the community of Radville and surrounding area. He was a member of the Radville Chamber of Commerce and the Elks Club. He donated his time developing Radville Park. Rick coached minor hockey and was a firearm safety instructor. He was on the Radville Town Council for a number of years and was the deputy Fire Chief. The greatest love of his life were his grandchildren. A memorial service was held Monday, September 11 at 1:00 p.m. from Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Radville, with Father Brian Meredith presiding. All of Rick's friends were considered to be honorary pallbearers. Donations may be made in Rick's memory to the Radville Marian Health Care Auxiliary, Palliative Care Fund. Arrangements were in care of Hastings-Dionne Funeral Home Inc., Weyburn and Radville.


Barbara Laura
Vanin (Wood)

Barbara Laura Vanin (Wood) passed away early in the morning Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000 at the Rosthern Hospital after a brief fight with cancer. Barb was born in Winnipeg, MB May 23, 1941. She was predeceased by her parents and her brother. She will be sadly missed by her four loving children: Wendy-Lori Dyck and her children, Randall Vanin, Carla Chanin and husband Rod and children, and Candace Isbister and husband Doug and child, as well as her ex-husband, Sam Vanin and her sister, Lorraine and her family. Barb was survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, cousins, aunts, in-laws and friends that will grieve her passing as well. Barb had made a wonderful move to Rosthern, SK, to be closer to the things she loved - garden, family and a little place of her own. A memorial service will be held in Regina at St. James United Church, 4506 Sherwood Drive, on Saturday, Sept. 23, at 2:00 p.m. The service will be followed by a tea. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be sent to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Osteoporosis Society. Cremation arrangements were in care of Funk's Funeral Home, Rosthern, SK.
