OBITUARIES

Glen Dorlyn Killian

On Friday, September 15, 2000 Glen Dorlyn Killian, late of Weyburn, passed away at the age of 44 years. Predeceased by his father, Dorlyn Killian on January 15, 2000, grandparents August and Rose Dorwart and Edward and Dorothy Killian. Glen will be lovingly remembered by his loving wife Michelle of Weyburn and their children: Marlow, Sean and Amanda; his mother, Roselie Killian of Weyburn; brother Miles Killian (friend Katherine Hamilton) of Regina; sister Roxanne (Kelly) Paul of Regina; a niece Megan; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Glen was born in Marmora, Ontario on February 29, 1956, a leap year. His parents returned to live permanently in the Weyburn area when Glen was seven months old. Brother Myles was born soon after, and the family was rounded out with sister Roxanne. Glen was always busy and into mischief, having numerous 'close calls' but someone was always there. He attended Haig school, Weyburn Junior High and the Comprehensive High School, then the Sask. Technological Institute. Glen's life-long passion for farming began riding the tractor all day on his grandfather Dorwart's knee. Later he was able to buy the farm and farm together with his dad for nearly 22 years. Meanwhile he learned mechanical and electrical skills from his dad which he put to good use in an electrical career for over 23 years and also taught to his own son Marlow. But farming was his true love and hope for the future. Glen married his high school sweetheart, Michelle Rubin on October 22, 1977. They started their home and family life on the farm right away. As their family grew, together they enjoyed cutting new trails all over the farm with snowmobiles, going hunting and water skiing, camping, visiting, and seeing just how fast that new vehicle would go. Glen also enjoyed being in charge of the barbecue, having just the right touch. Friends were always a high priority for Glen. He worked at Paul's Electric and had just started with Scott's Electric. He was always fixing something with someone, or out curling or mud slinging somewhere. He was known for doing everything quickly, whether it was wiring a fuse box or turning a wrench. No matter how busy he was, he made time if someone needed a hand or dropped in for coffee. He especially missed his father this last farming season and was thankful for the help of close friends. He lived with intensity, and will be greatly missed. His family would like to thank everyone for all your assistance with finishing the harvest and for all your support and caring during this difficult time. Funeral service was held Wednesday, September 20 at 2:00 p.m. from Zion Lutheran Church, Weyburn, with Pastor Ron Bestvater officiating. A tribute to Glen was given by Jim Rubin and special music by Mark and Donna Alexander accompanied by Melanie Alexander. Scripture readings were given by Rosemary Ponto and Amy Rose Rubin. Interment followed in Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn. All those in attendance were considered to be honorary pallbearers. The active pallbearers were: Ward McFadden, Mike Tait, Kevin Olson, Glen Hallick, Ken Freeman and Gord Maurer. For friends so wishing, donations may be made in his memory to a charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements were entrusted to Fletcher Funeral Chapels Ltd., Weyburn.
