OBITUARIES

Leonard Arthur Puddephatt

On December 2, 2000, Leonard passed away at the age of 78 years. Born August 11, 1922 in Dunstable, Bedfordshire England to William and Maude Puddephatt. Leonard is survived by his loving wife, Joyce of Weyburn, and daughters Joy Campbell of Lethbridge, AB, and Susan Jones (Darrell) of Regina. Also surviving are grandchildren, Wayne Addison, Dale Addison, Gina Campbell, Garrett Jones, Justin Jones and great grandchildren: Jackie Addison, Jeffery Campbell and Jesse Campbell. Len served 5-1/2 years with the Royal Airforce in Britain. During WWII, he serviced the aircraft as a flight mechanic. It was there that he met his wife Joyce who was also serving in the RAF. He was very proud to serve his country. In 1947, Len immigrated to Canada with his wife Joyce and daughter Joy. They set up residence in Weyburn, where he worked for his father-in-law Albert Abel. In 1953 the family returned to Dunstable where for the next two years Len was employed with Waterlow & Sons. After much soul searching, the decision was made to return to Canada in 1955, where Weyburn became a permanent home. In 1958 a second daughter, Susan, was born. Len was a very private person who dedicated his life to the happiness and fulfillment of his family. A kind man, who always was ready to help out when he was needed. He loved animals. He enjoyed sitting quietly on the sundeck, which he helped to build. He watched the birds and squirrels which he not only watched but also fed everyday. He took great pride in his work. There are many homes that reflect his talents as a painter and decorator for Swertz Brothers Construc-tion. He was a master craftsman with keen imagination and great artistic ability. He believed that any job must be done well. His garden was no exception. Together with Joyce, he created a wonderful sanctuary with beautiful flowers and trellis structures. A perfectionist through and through. In January 2000, Leonard was diagnosed with lung cancer. After major surgery and a courageous battle with cancer, he succumbed to the disease. Even though he suffered greatly, he never complained. A very special thank you to Dr. Dewar, Dr. Mahmud, and Dr. Patel of the Regina General and Pasqua hospitals. Also a special thank you to Dr. Lenferna and the nursing staff on 2nd and 3rd Floors of the Weyburn General Hospital. The care and attention Len received throughout his illness meant so much to the family. We would also like to say a big thank you to all those for their various acts of kindness shown to the family during a very difficult time. The many phone calls, visits to the house and gifts of food were much appreciated. And finally, a very special thank you to Ed Kitchen for the road trips to Regina Hospital and his continued support during Len's illness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Leonard's memory to the Weyburn Palliative Care Center or to the Weyburn Humane Society. A memorial service was held Friday, December 8, at 2:30 p.m. from Fletcher Funeral Chapels, Weyburn, with Rev. John Ferrier officiating. It is Leonard's wish that his ashes be returned to England - to a place he called home. Arrangements in care of Hastings-Dionne Funeral Home Inc., Weyburn.
