(Bob) McMillan
Robert (Bob) McMillan, beloved husband of Catherine McMillan of Weyburn, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 29, 2003 at the Souris Valley Extended Care Centre, Weyburn. He was 86 years of age. Robert was born on May 5, 1916 in Wynyard, the son of Robert and Florence (nee Plummer) McMillan. Sadly, his mother passed away within days of his birth. As an infant Robert was raised by the McLennan family in Wynyard until he moved with his father to a farm south of Estevan. In 1926 the family moved to Weyburn, where he has since resided. Robert received his education at Assiniboia School and the Weyburn Collegiate. During his high school years, he was active in many sports, especially track and field. Following service overseas during World War II, Robert was united in marriage to Catherine Buchanan on August 14, 1948. They were blessed with two children, Catherine in 1953 and John in 1958. Over the years Robert was employed with the Saskatchewan Hospital as a psychiatric nurse and later with the Weyburn Co-Op Association until his retirement. Robert was an active member of the Knox Presbyterian Church in Weyburn. Robert loved to sing and expressed his faith by singing with the choir, an activity he continued until just the last few months. Robert was a solitary, private man who will be remembered by family and friends for his humble nature and quiet ways. Robert was predeceased by his mother, Florence; his father, Robert; his step-mother, Hanna; his sister, Florence and numerous aunts and uncles in Canada and England. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Catherine; his daughter, Catherine (Barry) Shiells of Yorkton; his son, John (Dorothy) McMillan of Balgonie; his grandchildren, Jennifer Shiells of Regina, Andrea and Kirsten Shiells of Yorkton, Ian, Cathleen and Angus McMillan of Balgonie; his sisters, Belle of Thunder Bay, ON, and Dee of Toronto, ON, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral service was held on Monday, May 5, from Knox Presbyterian Church in Weyburn, with Reverend John Ferrier officiating. The organist, Tanis Thompson, led the congregation and members of the parish choir in the singing of the hymns, "The Lord is My Shepherd", "It Is Well With My Soul" and "Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah." The interment followed in the Hillcrest Cemetery with John McMillan, Ian McMillan and Barry Shiells serving as casket bearers. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Christie-Hill Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, Yorkton.

Palmer PedersonPalmer Pederson was born on the family farm in southern Saskatchewan on August 19, 1921. He served in the air force as a mechanic during WWII. After the war, he owned a garage in Glen Ewen. He traveled out to Smithers, BC to join his brother Menford. Palmer owned and operated a small log mill, where his younger brother Oscar would come out and work winters. Palmer met his wife Vivian in Telkwa, they were married in Terrace, BC on August 18, 1954. They subsequently purchased and moved to a farm in North Bulkley (Houston), BC in 1956. Palmer worked hard on the farm as well as working for the Ministry of Forests as a truck driver until he retired. Palmer lived with Multiple Sclerosis for most of his life. Many people were unaware of his long battle with the disease, but it profoundly shaped the man he was and the courage it took for him to face every day. Palmer served as Service Officer for the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 249 (Houston) for a number of years. He was a man of principal and honour, and was proud of being able to serve his fellow veterans. Palmer is survived by and will be greatly missed by his wife, Vivian, his children, Paul, Ron and Pat, and grandchildren, Gordon, Megan and Veronica, and his brothers Willard in Calgary, AB, and Menford and Oscar in Smithers, BC. There are also numerous other family and friends who will miss him. His sister, Gladys Hanson of Weyburn passed away April 13, 2003. A Legion memorial was held in Houston on January 29, 2003 and he was interred at Lac Qui Parle Church on Saturday, May 17 at 10:00 a.m. The family would like to thank all those who assisted in arranging the interment at Lac Qui Parle as well as all those who have sent cards, flowers and donations.
