Clifford Adolphe Dechant

Clifford Adolphe Dechant passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at the age of 93 years. He was born at Colfax, to Reinhold and Hilda Dechant on June 8, 1923 and was the middle child in a family of seven children. Clifford is predeceased by his parents, Reinhold and Hilda; wife, Pauline Dechant; five brothers, Art, Ralph, Ernie, Walter and Carl and one sister, Grace. From the family farm at Colfax Clifford moved to Weyburn and lived in a trailer with his brother Carl. He soon started a job at Watson’s that would become a lifelong career. He worked at Watson John Deere for many many years and enjoyed his job until the day he retired. Clifford liked to work on the old machinery from the years spent on the farm. After moving into Weyburn he never lived anywhere else. Clifford married Pauline Szczecinski in November of 1984 at the Lutheran Church in Weyburn. Clifford was an avid fan of the Weyburn Red Wings and along with his brothers was a season ticket holder for many years. He enjoyed playing cards and dancing at the Wheatland Senior Centre where he was a chartered member. His toy collection of “John Deere” tractors was his prize possession and he had one from every year imaginable. Clifford was a member of the Lutheran Church and while living in Tatagwa View he still made an effort to attend services that were held by the Lutheran Parish. He enjoyed trips made to British Columbia to see Raymond and Vilma. After marrying Pauline he rekindled his relationship with the Ortman family that he had growing up. Clifford became an enthusiastic participant in family weddings, anniversaries and other family celebrations. Clifford was a wonderful and loving man who enjoyed his family of step-children and step-grandchildren. He never thought of them as “step”, they were just his family. Clifford will be lovingly will be remembered by his family: Marlene Szczecinski of Weyburn; Ron (Fern) Szczecinski of Weyburn; Raymond (Vilma) Szczecinski of Surrey, BC; Larry (Cindy) Szczecinski of Weyburn; 11 grandchildren and spouses and 16 great grandchildren. A Service of Remembrance was held Tuesday, January 17, at 11:00 a.m. from Zion Lutheran Church, Weyburn, with Marjorie McLeod, CLA officiating. Interment at Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn.
