Marvin Hoium, late of Midale, passed away unexpectedly at the Estevan Hospital on November 14, 2014, at the age of 88 years. Marvin was predeceased by Alfred and Emilie Hoium; sister Agnes Rosengren; brothers Elwin Hoium, James Hoium; and son Leslie Hoium. He is survived by wife of 61 years, Ruth; Les’ children, Bryan and Sheri (Greg) Hoium; daughter Lynda (Greg) Savenkoff, and their children: Mark (Tina) Savenkoff, Richelle (Kevin) McCann; son Larry (Lorrie) Hoium, and their children: Derek (Jamie) Hoium, Drew Hoium; brother Bazel Hoium; sister Hazel Rose; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Marvin was born December 8, 1925 on a farm by Midale under the care of Mrs.Youngren (midwife) and Dr. Mainprize. Following school he began farming. From 1944 to 1946 he was in the military service in Maple Creek, Dundurn and Petawawa. Marvin married Ruth Tysseland on December 12, 1953 and they raised three children: Leslie, Lynda and Larry. Marvin was a mixed farmer, yet his true passion was his cattle. He farmed until retiring in Midale in 1994. Marvin loved spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading, gardening, yard work, playing cards, solving Sudoku puzzles, listening to polka music as well as being involved in church and community activities. The Interment for Marvin was held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 19 in the Westphalia Cemetery at Midale with Pastor Cicely McDougall officiating. Royal Canadian Legion Members laid poppies and played ‘The Last Post’. The Funeral Service was held at 2:00 p.m. from the Bethlehem Lutheran Church with Pastor Cicely McDougall, officiating. Pallbearers were Gary Hoium, Neil Hoium, Ron Hoium, Randy Hoium, Dave Schindel and Reg Rose. Honorary Pallbearers were Howard Rosengren, Kevin Hoium, Allen Johnson, Lawrence Moldenhauer, Ray Gill, Leon Hoium, Chelsea Schindel and Harvey Rose. Hazel Schindel was the Pianist and sang “Where the Roses Never Fade”. Hymns “Shall We Gather At The River”, “Amazing Grace” and “Soon and Very Soon” were sung. Scripture was read by Richelle McCann. Dr. Gary Hoium delivered the Eulogy. Comrade John New, Royal Canadian Legion Member, read a “Prayer of Remembrance” and poppies were placed in front of Marvin’s Military photo by other Legion Members. Lunch was served. Marvin will be truly missed but never forgotten! Sincere thanks to family and friends for your prayers, phone calls, texts, cards and food items!
