Police charge two women for trafficking in cocaine

The Weyburn Police Service, Criminal Investigative Unit arrested and charged two women, aged 21 and 28 years old, with possession for the purpose of trafficking in cocaine on Mar. 17.

The arrests were made as part of an ongoing drug trafficking investigation. Approximately three ounces of cocaine was seized with a street value of between $9,000 and $12,000.

The 21-year-old female was released from custody and will appear in court at a later date, while the 28-year-old accused made her first court appearance on March 18 and was released from custody; she will appear in court again in April.

The Criminal Investigative Unit is an integrated unit consisting of members of the Weyburn Police Service and the RCMP.

The Weyburn Police Service investigated reports of an erratic driver on Mar. 20. A vehicle matching the description was located and stopped around midnight, and a 44-year-old male was arrested for impaired driving and refusal to take a breath test. The subsequent investigation also determined the male had possession of a switch blade and brass knuckles, both prohibited weapons. The accused, in addition to being charged with impaired and refusal was also charged with possession of prohibited weapons.

He was released from custody and will make his first court appearance next month.

Police are investigating a mischief complaint after a report was received on Mar. 17 that a parked vehicle had been damaged by someone scratching words into the vehicle's paint.

Police received a report of a fraud after a local male returned from a flight and found he had lost his identification and credit cards.

The complainant reported on Mar. 19 that money had been removed from the chequing account and cash advances had been made against the credit cards. The incident is under investigation.

While on patrol on Mar. 22, police stopped a vehicle for speeding and observed the driver had been drinking. The driver, a 28-year-old female, was suspended from driving for 24 hours and given a ticket for the speeding offense.

Police responded to a local hotel on Mar. 23 where an intoxicated male was causing a disturbance by insisting he was staying in one of the hotel rooms. A short time later, police were able to locate the individual's roommates who agreed to look after the male until sober.

Police responded to a domestic dispute between a husband and wife on Mar. 23. The dispute had escalated to where scalding water had been thrown at the other individual. Police arrested a 26-year-old female and subsequently charged her with assault with a weapon. The accused was released from custody with a court date set for April.

Police attended to a motor vehicle accident at First Avenue SW and Government Road between a semi trailer and car on Mar. 23. Both vehicles had been traveling eastbound. The semi was attempting to make a right hand turn and the car, not observed by the semi driver, had driven between the semi and curb. During the turn the semi trailer struck the car. No injuries were reported and damage was minor. No charges were laid in this incident.

Police attended to a motor vehicle accident in the 600 block of 18th Street after a vehicle had collided with a parked truck on Mar. 23. No injuries were reported but damage to the vehicles was severe with one vehicle requiring to be towed from the scene. The driver, a 17-year-old female, was charged with driving without due care and attention.
