Police lay theft charges

In early morning hours of July 22, Weyburn Police Service members conducted a traffic stop. As a result of the stop both vehicle occupants were arrested. A 25-year-old female passenger is facing charges of possession of stolen property.



In early morning hours of July 22, Weyburn Police Service members conducted a traffic stop. As a result of the stop both vehicle occupants were arrested. A 25-year-old female passenger is facing charges of possession of stolen property. The 36-year-old male driver is also facing possession of stolen property charges. Both charges related to the theft of the vehicle they were driving and to a stolen licence plate on the vehicle. The investigation is ongoing and more charges are expected to be laid. Both accused were remanded in custody.

The Weyburn Police Service responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision at First Avenue and Government Road. Both vehicles were damaged but no one was injured. A 31-year-old female was charged with disobeying a red light.

The Weyburn Police Service were contacted by the Swift Current RCMP asking to locate and arrest an individual who was wanted on criminal harassment charges. The 43-year-old male was located and arrested on the warrant. He was subsequently released for a court appearance.

Police responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision at Bison Avenue and Fifth Street on Saturday. There were no injuries. A 16-year-old female has been charged with proceeding before safe and with driving in violation of a licence restriction.

The Weyburn Police Service received a complaint on July 22 about a vehicle being driven with a rather large dog sitting on the driver's lap. While this is not in itself an offence if the animal is restricting the driver's view or otherwise causing the driver to be inattentive or distracted the appropriate charge could be laid.

The Weyburn Police Service received a complaint on July 24 of a suspicious male person and vehicle in the mall lot that appeared to be watching a young female driver in her vehicle. The vehicle nor the person was not located. The police wish to stress to anyone in a similar situation that they should remain in their vehicle and immediately call 911 for police assistance.

A Weyburn family was the victim of a telephone fraud commonly referred to as the "Grandparent Scam" on July 24. In this fraud a person is contacted by either someone alleging to be a family member, or a lawyer acting for the person saying that they are in some legal trouble and need money for bail/lawyer.

The Weyburn Police Service received a complaint on July 25 of two people doing drugs in a vehicle parked in a vehicle by a local pub.

By the time the police arrived the activity was over but the people admitted the act. There was no evidence available at that time to proceed with charges.
