Review nominated for 5 awards

The Weyburn Review has been nominated for five awards in the annual Better Newspapers Competition put on by the Saskatchewan Weekly Newspapers Association. Among the nominations are two in the General Excellence category.



The Weyburn Review has been nominated for five awards in the annual Better Newspapers Competition put on by the Saskatchewan Weekly Newspapers Association.

Among the nominations are two in the General Excellence category.

In Class C, the Review's circulation category, the Review is nominated for Best Front Page and Best Overall Paper.

In the general awards categories, the nominations include Best Agricultural Story, Best Education Coverage for K-12, and Best Feature Photo.

The agricultural story was published on March 21, and was an interview with Beaubier farmer Morris Johnson by Greg Nikkel, entitled, "Beaubier farmer suggests a revolution for growing produce: customized agricultural practices".

The Best Education Coverage included several stories and photos of Weyburn's K-12 schools from throughout the year, with everything from the science fair and the opening of the new facility at St. Michael to the coverage of the national student leadership conference at the Comp.

The Best Feature photo, by Greg Nikkel, was an action photo of a skateboarder at the Weyburn Youth Center silhouetted at sunset, published on Aug. 15.

The 2013 Better Newspapers awards banquet will be held on April 20 in Saskatoon, as part of the annual SWNA convention.
