Rodeo activities, cabaret set for Souris River Rodeo

Three action-packed days are planned for the Souris River Rodeo, which will be held at the Weyburn Exhibition grounds on Friday to Sunday, July 18 to 20. Events kick off with the team roping jackpot on Friday night at 6 p.m.



Three action-packed days are planned for the Souris River Rodeo, which will be held at the Weyburn Exhibition grounds on Friday to Sunday, July 18 to 20.

Events kick off with the team roping jackpot on Friday night at 6 p.m. This event will feature ropers from all across Canada, and is open to any level of team roping from beginner to professional. There is free admission to the team roping jackpot evening.

Then on Saturday, July 19, the Kids Rodeo will be held at 10 a.m. This event is open to children ages 10 and under, and will feature local contestants who are the future of rodeo. There is free admission to the Kids Rodeo.

Following the Kids Rodeo is the Canadian Cowboys Association Rodeo Performance at 5 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for students, and no cost for ages five and under.

Rodeos sanctioned by the Canadian Cowboys Association are comprised of seven major events, and four optional novice and junior events.

The seven major CCA rodeo events are: saddle bronc riding; bareback riding; bull riding; tie down roping; steer wrestling; ladies barrel racing; and team roping. The four optional rodeo events that round out the event include: junior bull riding; junior girls barrel racing; novice saddle bronc; and novice bareback

Saturday activities wrap up with a Rodeo Cabaret at the Weyburn Curling Rink at 9 p.m. Third Degree Birnz will be featured on the stage. Tickets are $15 per person and are available at the King George Hotel, or can be purchased at the door.

Then on Sunday, there will be a slack performance at 9 a.m., with free admission. Then the Canadian Cowboys Association Rodeo performances continue at 2 p.m., with the same events and admission as Saturday.
