Beavers start season strong with win streak

The Weyburn Senior Beavers have taken a solid start to their 2017 season in the Western Major Baseball League, by currently holding onto a three-game winning streak. The Beavers had a number of road games to start off their season.

The Weyburn Senior Beavers have taken a solid start to their 2017 season in the Western Major Baseball League, by currently holding onto a three-game winning streak. The Beavers had a number of road games to start off their season.
“I am more than happy to have the opportunity to come here and play,” said Evan Weidner, an infielder from Adams State University. “The team looks really good. We are still waiting for a few more players to come in, but we are coming together really nicely.”
“I think the talent level is the best that I have ever played with,” said Cody Pamperin, a right-handed pitcher from Minnesota-Crookston.
The season opened with a game in Melville on June 1, which the Beavers lost 3-2. Melville scored a run in the first inning and the Beavers scored two runs in the second inning. The score remained at 2-1 until the ninth inning, when Melville scored two runs for the win.
Then the Beavers were in Moose Jaw on June 2, where they claimed an 8-6 victory. Moose Jaw was first to get on the scoreboard, with a run scored in the fourth inning. Weyburn scored two runs in the sixth inning, and Moose Jaw added three runs in the seventh inning. After adding one run in both the eighth and ninth innings, Weyburn was able to tie up the game. Both teams scored two runs each in the 10th inning, and the Beavers claimed the win after scoring two runs in the 11th inning.
The Beavers were in Yorkton on June 2, where they won 11-8 over the Cardinals. Weyburn had a strong start in the first couple of innings, scoring six runs in the first inning and two runs in the second. Yorkton was able to score four runs in the first inning and one run in the second. The Cardinals then scored one run in each of the sixth, seventh and eighth innings. Weyburn secured their win by scoring three runs in the eighth inning.
On Monday night, the Beavers were in Regina where they claimed a 6-3 victory. Weyburn scored three runs in the third inning. Regina scored a run in both the fourth and sixth innings. Weyburn scored three runs in the seventh inning, and Regina was only able to score one more run in the eighth inning.
The Beavers were in Melville on Tuesday morning. They will be in Yorkton again on Wednesday, June 7. The home opener will be on Friday, June 9, when the Moose Jaw Miller Express is in Weyburn, with the first pitch at 7 p.m.
“We have a great team and we should get really good performances from everyone if we have a good crowd at the home opener,” said Weidner.
