Comp Eagles boys take silver in home tourney

The Weyburn Comp Eagles senior boys hosted their first tournament of the season on Friday and Saturday, the Christmas Classic Basketball Tournament, and came away with the silver medal.

The Weyburn Comp Eagles senior boys hosted their first tournament of the season on Friday and Saturday, the Christmas Classic Basketball Tournament, and came away with the silver medal.

They lost to Moose Jaw Vanier in the gold medal on Saturday evening by the score of 71-68.

The Eagles handily won their opening game on Friday versus Yorkton Sacred Heart by 93-43, which advanced them to face Swift Current on Saturday afternoon. They defeated Swift Current by the score of 71-51. Swift Current went on to win the bronze medal, beating O’Neill 71-55.

The Comp Eagles senior girls basketball went to their first tournament of the season in Swift Current, and in their first game they lost to North Battleford 65-50.

The girls went on to beat Yorkton Regional by the score of 65-43, and in their last game they defeated Regina Sheldon Williams 68-44.

The Comp Eagles junior boys basketball team travelled to Yorkton Regional over the weekend and won the gold medal at a tournament.

The Eagles first defeated Moose Jaw Peacock 104-44, then they beat the host team Yorkton 78-63, and then finished off winning gold by beating Moose Jaw Vanier 104-72.

The team is coached by Cory Olson, with players Ethan Peterson, Alex Lund, Amiel Verdejo, Seth Diede, Nik Hiltz, Eric Barsness, Carson Field, Lance Palao, Kyle Barrett, Marcus Gregory, Zachary Olson and Jacob Butz.

The Weyburn Eagles Freshman Boys (Grade 8-9) Basketball team attended their first away tournament in Melfort over the weekend.

They lost their first game on Friday night to North Battleford 54-34. On Saturday morning they beat Osler 58-35 to advance to the afternoon consolation final against St. Brieux and beat them 82-58.
