Red Wings in second after win over Melfort

The Weyburn Red Wings won 6-3 over the Melfort Mustangs, in a home game on Friday. The Red Wings are now second place in the Viterra division of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.

The Weyburn Red Wings won 6-3 over the Melfort Mustangs, in a home game on Friday.
The Red Wings are now second place in the Viterra division of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League. Weyburn has a one-point lead over the Yorkton Terriers, who are currently in third place. The Estevan Bruins still have a strong lead, holding onto first in the Viterra.
During the first period, Carson Rose scored two goals, which were both assisted by Jacob Wozney and Braden Mellon.
Rose completed a hat trick by scoring a third goal early in the second period, assisted by Erik Olson. Melfort scored their first goal in the second period.
In the third period, Melfort scored twice, while the Red Wings picked up three more goals for the win. Scoring for Weyburn was Landon Walters, Erik Olson and Tyran Brown.
Carter Phair was in the net for the win. He stopped 32 out of 35 shots.
During a game against the Nipawin Hawks on Jan. 24, the Red Wings lost 4-1 to the Hawks. The lone goal for Weyburn was scored by Erik Olson in the first period. Nipawin scored one goal in the first period, one in the second, and two goals in the third.
Shaun Fleming was in net for the loss. He stopped 37 out of 40 attempts.
The Weyburn Red Wings will host the Yorkton Terriers at Crescent Point Place on Saturday, Feb. 4. The Notre Dame Hounds will be in Weyburn on Tuesday, Feb. 7.
