Stoughton (cpd) - Canvasers will be around to Stoughton households to collect for Donor's Choice for a two-week period; the campaign will run from Apr. 21-May 5 inclusive.
The annual general meeting of the Stoughton and District Donor's Choice was held on Mar. 24. With a quorum present, four executive were reinstated; Ruth Klatt, chairperson; Carol Balon, vice-chairperson, Pat Knox, treasurer, and Jacqueline McGill, secretary. Two newly-elected trustees were welcomed, Laura Sabados, and Shirley Coderre, who has been serving as member-at-large and canvasser for several years.

The treasurer's report noted $23,350 was collected in the 2013 appeal and dispersed to 39 local and national charities.Of interest may be that the 2012 appeal raised $2,600 more than 2013; however, 2012's appeal was extended to the entire month of April.

The goal is to raise the total collected this year without having to extend the campaign period, as it is a busy time of year for everyone.

Motions were passed to amend the Charity List to remove dissolved charities, and include new qualifying applicants. Added to the list will be Stoughton Community Drop-In Center, Stoughton Swimming Pool, Stoughton and District Museum, and Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of Canada. A workshop will be held on Monday, Apr. 14 to assemble donation packages, and canvassers may pick up their packages on Apr. 15-17.

The organizers would like to extend their gratitude to the volunteers who continue to serve, and to new members and canvassers who have joined our appeal.

Their donation of time allows the group to continue meeting the charitable wishes of the growing town of Stoughton and surrounding area by keeping this campaign alive.

When the volunteer canvasser knocks, they are offering the opportunity for the "donor" to support their "choice" of charities with an all-in-one donation, and will issue your tax receipt on the spot. The organization is always looking for more canvassers, so if you would like to become a volunteer, please contact one of the executive listed.

It should be noted that that all money donated goes directly to the donor's choice; there are no overhead or any other deductions made in the distributing or administration of same.
