The Water Security Agency (WSA) is advising the public of the potential for a significant precipitation event spread over a large area near the southern portion of the province.
At this time, the areas forecasted to receive the most amount of rainfall are those regions southeast of a line from Val Marie, Assiniboia, Regina and down to Estevan. In these areas, rainfall amounts from 50 to 80 mm (1.9 to 3.1 inches) are possible between Friday night and Monday morning. The majority of the rainfall is expected on Saturday and Sunday.
There is low to moderate confidence in the timing, extent of the area affected, tracking of the system and precipitation amounts. There could also be significant concentrations of rainfall embedded in the system that would lead to localized flooding.
Rafferty and Alameda Reservoirs are both below their full supply levels and have a large amount of flood storage available. Releases from each reservoir may be increased as needed but are not expected to cause any flooding problems.
Many areas in the southern portion of the province still have above normal water levels from the flooding event in July. This rainfall could create localized flooding in certain areas. Residents are asked to be aware of the situation and pay attention to the weather forecast and prepare accordingly.
